A Soothing, classical guitar CD, complemented by strings, Spanish vocals and ocean waves.
This CD was inspired by a trip to Costa RIca and a nylon-stringed guitar purchased at a flea market in San Jose. Recorded at Stable Sounds Studio in Portsmouth, RI, with sound engineer, musician and friend Steve Rizzo. Steve's recording credits include hundreds of local and national recording artists, including Kristen Hirsch, Belly, Duke Robillard, and Andrew Nicolleta, to name a few. The CD is a collection of vibey-relaxing tunes centered around guitar, but including eveything from piano and percussion, to strings, bassoon, and even gourds. Basically, anything lying around in the studio was fair game and the result is a tightly crafted collection of melodic, meditative tunes performed by a fine group of musicians. Early comparisons have been made to Sting's guitarist Dominic Miller and some of Andreas Vollenwieder's earlier compositions. Whatever it reminds you of, I thank you for checking out the music and would love to hear your feedback! Til' then,
Pura Vida,
Eric Marx

MARX the spot-----
Saturday, 12-9
It takes more than two minutes into the first and title track of Eric Marx's "Pura Vida" for a guitar to appear. Instead, a distant violin and the sounds of rushing water introduce a tightly collected collection of songs showcasing Marx's guitar virtuosity engaged in an earnest conversation. The result is a soothin solo CD that acheives the distinction of making it not about the solo artist but about his collaboration with a group of talented guest musicians, including Hilary Hartlaub on violin, Nate Blaser on cello, vocalist Iani Moreno and sound engineer Steve Rizzo on second guitar. It's the kind of vibe you might expect from someone who teaches psychology and sociology, Marx's "day job". The Middletown resident celebates the release with a performance and listening party at Loca, 109 Long Wharf, Newport. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the CD will benefit Clean Ocean Access, a local non-profit organization looking to raise awareness about the diminishing water quality of local beaches.
