Comparisons to Death Cab For Cutie, Pete Yorn, and the would-be yupster movement aside, Eric James is in many ways a throw back. Melding the earthy, rock n roll aesthetic of Bruce and his E Street Band with the progressive college pop of Coldplay, Ben Folds and Badly Drawn Boy, James gains a somewhat unique dichotomy: arty pop music without shoe gazing pretensions. While I get a lot of comparisons to Coldplay, which these days seems to go hand in hand with touching a piano at any point in the set, I have a lot of respect for Springsteen, says James. Hes had a lot of things to say and has always found an artful way of saying them.
An element of heart-on-his-sleeve honestly is a fundamental part of James music. In many ways reminiscent of both early and recent U2, this openness allows Eric to explore deeply resonating subjects from an artful but non-posturing attitude.Im a fan of a lot of bands out there who would be labeled as pretentious. I honestly dont really have a problem with them - I just choose not to approach my music that way.

On our way after Common Grounds in Waco....free coffee for the bands....Joe's been drumming on the steering wheel for the last hour and a half. Ryan aced his test online earlier. And I feel fine. At the show there were 6 stray kittens hanging out the whole time. They were awesome. We tried to catch one of them. The plan would have been to make it the band mascot, dress him up in funny oversized sunglasses and teach him to sell merch.

These past few days have been awesome...Forth Worth, Austin and San Antonio have been more than kind to all of us. Tonight, we played a fun show with the Tripcatz ... (I swear Hugh Grant was the lead piano player by the way... no joke) anyways, the show was in this really cool coffee shop/bar in the heart of San Antonio. After the set, Joe even got to play a fun little jazz set with Carl, the piano player from the Tripcatz, which was quite impressive. As I type, we're headin' out of San Antonio and headin' back to good ole' Austin to get some shuteye for tomarrows show in Houston. Hope to see you there, signin' out for now ...

First show with Green River Ordinance tonight....Great band. We had a wonderful time. Doing the sleeping in the floor thing now. All three of us fell for the Texas barbeque that was being sold next to the club....I'm told that I'll be regretting this later. I smell like an ashtray these days...Unfortunately, the Mobile Comand Unit doesn't have a feature which sanitizes one's clothes.
Just do this.

Record temperatures today in Philadelphia. News reports said it was about 103 at one point. While driving around today in my familiar oldsmobuick I figured out the answer to our nations energy crisis. If we could some howjust some how harness peoples road rage and convert it into potential energy, we should have more than enough jiggawattage to keep us running smoothly for a thousand years and beyond.
