February 18
2008 has swept us up in a lovely little storm. In late-December, Ellery was voted into Paste Magazine's Top 5 artists in their Cayamo Cruise Contest. Early this year, we learned that our new friends The Bowmans won the contest. Great ladies with great music -- We're wishing them the best!
Meanwhile, the selection by Paste & the subsequent voting process continues to be an honor to us -- And it's helping to spread the word about our music. What a gift to have your votes. Once again, our many, many thanks!
Late-January found us in the UK for our first time, drinking in the gray skyline and warm pubs, bus rides along narrow brick streets, and jaunts up the Royal Mile. (With many a stop at many a coffeeshop.) While overseas, we made a quick trip to Brussels for a show, and for a visit that was too short. But what a lovely venue among such lovely people! Our special thanks to Carlton & Richard --
On February 22nd, we'll be playing an official showcase at the 2008 International Folk Alliance Conference in Memphis TN. The FA's Executive Director, Louis Meyers, was one of the founders of SXSW, and it's become one of the largest music conferences in the country. Wish us luck!
Ellery was also just selected as a Top 6 artist by myTracks.com -- Check out their other top picks here!
And finally, we've begun the long and poetic process of creating another full-length record. We'll keep you posted...

CLOSING...
Happy 2008 friends --
Our home is still twinkling with tiny lights that we can't bring ourselves to take down. (In fact, a new strand just went up yesterday.) It's such a lovely demure light against the gray blowing in our backyard, leaves piled high, 65 degrees on January 6th.
Welcome to the New Year.
2007 ended in a lovely blur of December events, including the release of our holiday EP (still available; read below!), the selection by Paste Magazine as a finalist in their cruise contest, and a lovely evening at Joseph-Beth in Cincinnati. Thank you so much for helping us fold up the year with such warmth. It left us feeling grateful to be living life with you and with this music -- And we're looking forward to an eventful 2008!
BEGINNINGS...
Our first show of 2008 was on the fourth in Tiffin Ohio, at the historic Ritz Theatre. We've made a little tradition now of performing for their first "First Friday" event of the year, which has been a delightful way to get things going again after the holidays. January 5th found us in Lexington at Natasha's Bistro, one of the most fabulous rooms we've played in a while. It has all the vibe of the House of Blues Cambridge Room in Cleveland, but intimate and romantic... We played to a full and fine house; we're already excited to make our way back again soon!
As for other beginnings, Justin recently got his hands on a few eclectic musical instruments and/or mics, which are making sounds in our living room as I type... (Many of which I'm sure will wind up in Ellery shows this year). And there's been speak of more accordion... Its revisit to the Ellery show in December has set us astir.
THE PASTE CONTEST...
Thank you all SO much for your votes and for sharing your excitement with us for the Paste Magazine cruise contest!
(For newcomers, Paste Magazine selected 20 artists in December to vie for a performance slot on the Cayamo Journey Through Song cruise in February 2008, among artists like Emmylou Harris, Lyle Lovett, Shawn Colvin, Patty Griffin, etc. The 20 finalists were to be whittled down to five artists by an online vote, and then a panel of celebrity judges would choose the final winner.)
Ellery made it to the Top 5, thanks entirely to you and your amazing support! After that, we waited through the holidays for the final word. A duo of sisters called/named The Bowmans ended up landing the spot on the Cruise... And while it's not the ending we'd have chosen for the story, :) it's the best possible alternative. Those gals are lovely and they've been wonderful to us through this entire contest process. So keep an eye out for a Bowmans/Ellery show hopefully coming up in coming months...
Either way, the whole experience was wonderful. It was an unexpected honor to be chosen by Paste last month, and what a amazing gift to see such waves of support and so many votes coming in! So thank you all again SO much for voting, for your kind messages about the contest, for your well wishes, and for dreaming along with us. We owe you.
THE HOLIDAY EP...
On December 10th, we released a 3-song holiday EP entitled "December Days," offering it for Free Download via our MySpace site and at our home page. It gave us a way to say Thanks for a great year, and it gave our friends & fans a way to easily spread the word about our music to friends/neighbors/family/coworkers/strangers, at no cost. We hoped the songs would sail around the world, and it seems now that they have!
So thank you to all of you who shared our music this past month: That goes such a long way in spreading the good Ellery word. And we'd love for you to continue to pass the songs along while they're still available!
The free EP will remain up for one more week... You can find it at www.ellerychristmas.com. (This link will take you to our MySpace profile, but you don't have to be a MySpace member to get the songs.)
You can also go to our official site... Or, if you'd like to simply copy & paste the following link, you'll get the songs and some "December Days" artwork as well:

Thanks so much for your support!
THE NORTH AMERICAN FOLK ALLIANCE...
We're honored to have been chosen to showcase at the 2008 International Folk Alliance Conference in Memphis TN. The annual conference is one of the five largest music conferences in the country, established to gather some of the best up-and-coming artists in the folk(-ish) world and allow them to showcase for promoters, agents, record labels, and media. Our performance will be on Friday February 22nd at 8pm, followed by Rose Cousins, who is delightful. You can find more information about the Folk Alliance and the Conference here!
WHERE WE'LL BE...
We're currently booking for March/April 2008 in the midwest, east coast, and upper midwest/NW regions. If you're interested in seeing an Ellery show in your hometown, at your college/university, at a festival/event, at your favorite venue, or even in your living room (we love house concerts), please send an email to booking@ellerymusic.com. We'd love to hear from you!
We'll be skipping town later this month for a visit to Edinburgh, so if you're in the UK
and you're interested in a live show, let us know! :)
For current Tour listings, see the Dates listed on our MySpace profile, or on our official Tour Dates page.
More Spring dates (including January & February) will be added very soon, so check back soon for updates!
CLOSING...
Thank you again for the gift of your listening ears and your tremendous support. This making of music feels more and more like a lovely dream...
Not the kind in which we bask in blissful lethargy on a warm beach somewhere with too much time on our hands (although we like those kinds of dreams),
...but the kind in which we're in active pursuit of something deeply meaningful to say with our lives, and we find that there are Good people along the way with us, pursuing it too, saying it too.
"If you tire, give me both burdens, and rest the chuff of your hand on my hip. And in due time you shall repay the same service to me. For after we start we never lie by again." (Walt Whitman)
Thank you.
To the New Year, and the Hope of Becoming --
--Tasha & Justin // Ellery
