EAST AVENUE
With many of todays artists simply following the current trends already set by others, its rare to find a rock band that is daring enough to step forward with a sound of their own, without being merely the flavor of the week. East Avenue is one of those bands.
Formed in late 2004 from the remnants of various Albany, NY-area rock and hardcore bands, the members of East Avenue have a long history of making music together. They have dominated their local music scene in and around Albany for almost three years. In that time, they have shared the stage with exceptional bands from across the country, and have performed at several colleges and events across New York. Their most notable performances include Albanys annual Park Fest 2006, and one of the final shows
ever at the infamous rock venue CBGB in New York City. Most recently, in December 2006, the band won California-based record label
Suretone Records' Best Unsigned Band Competition.
East Avenue's sound can't be defined in simple terms. The band effectively combines the genres of rock, dance, and pop in a way that is fresh and exciting. Some of the key elements of the band's music have always been driving, hard-hitting momentum and a meticulous arragnement of parts (so much so that some might say it almost borders anal-retentive).
Drawing influence from amazing artists like The Police, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Rush, and The Killers (just to name a few), East Avenues sound is rich and dynamic, definitely catchy, sometimes even in-your-face, but always original.
"We try to combine everything we love about 70s and 80s rock and roll, which is basically the stuff alot of us grew up on, said singer Anthony Johnson. At the same time, we still keep our music modern and edgy. Its the kind of sound weve been waiting to hear a band come out with for years now, but it just hasn't been done. If you really take the time to listen, we think that you'll find a little bit of something for everyone in our music."
East Avenue are currently in the process of producing their third effort - a self-produced EP - which is due out in summer of 2007. In the meantime, they continue to play shows throughout New York and beyond.
East Avenue is:
