Depression Yesterday's Video

Dylan Donkin hails from a small valley region on Mauis north shore at the edge of a rainforest. On any given day, Dylan can be found debating the finer points of The White Album while perched upside down in a bizarre yogic pose. If he could reach it, he'd probably be punctuating his phrases with chords on the piano too. With a record collection a mile long, the singer/guitarist absorbs music like water on a hot sidewalk. He draws from an eclectic array of influences (ranging from Jeff Buckley and Elliott Smith to Neil Young and Pink Floyd) to forge tunes that are distinctive and original, yet strangely familiar. His wailing vocals and layers of harmony carry straight out of the atmosphere. Originally from San Francisco, Dylan followed his muse to the middle of the Pacific where he finds inspiration everyday in the tranquility of the Islands.

Dylan is set to release a 7" vinyl single in September, followed by a second 7" or vinyl EP in November. Dylan will spend most of the next 12 months on the road building his fan base prior to releasing his debut full-length album in May 2007.

Innarestin' book by Michael Pollon, The Botany of Desire: A Plant's-Eye View of the World. It's about the intelligence in plants and theorizes that plants use people as much as we use them. Like, it's in our desire to eat tasty apples that there exists so many tasty apples in the world. Really makes you wonder who's smarter.

Karen Rawlings R.I.P

My friend, Karen Rawlings, commited suicide yesterday. Over the past 6 years, through emails and chats I got to know and really like Karen. When i first started playing in my band, Echobrain, she was the first person to email me who wasn't already a friend or a family member that she liked my music. She did a ton of street team work for Echobrain and i've probably emailed a thousand emails back and forth with her. She was one of the most plain spoken people i've ever met. She spoke fearlessly, directly and with her heart, always. She talked raw, free of all sugar-coating and would tell you exactly what she thought, whether you liked it or not. Those types of people are so rare and beautiful. She was rebellious by nature. She was one of the "mad ones", always ready to go against the grain, always defending the underdog and always questioning. She had so much heart. I knew she was in a lot of pain (her son Stephen died in an automobile accident a few months ago) and just wanted peace. I'll miss her a lot. To everyone out there who knew Karen, please raise a glass to her tonight.
