A brief history and bio of the DONOTS

The Donots have been together since 1994 and signed a major deal with GUN Records/Supersonic in 1998 (a division of BMG Germany). They later on got licensed for the rest of Europe by Swedens renowned punkrock indie BURNING HEART RECORDS making them the first German Band on the label. BMG Japan followed soon after and successful, high chart entries (e.g. 3 in Japan and 18 in Germany) of albums such as Pocketrock, Amplify The Good Times or Got The Noise (produced by their friend Fabio Trentini) in various territories plus sold out shows were evidence enough for the fact that THE DONOTS had become one of the big names of the genre yet keeping close touch with their quickly growing fanbase.

Despite heavy single rotation on college radio stations and music television and nominees for Best German Band and Best Rock Band the band were always a lot more concerned with playing as many shows as possible and having a good time with their fans. Until today THE DONOTS have thus shared clubs, busses and big festival stages with countless artists such as Green Day, Blink 182, The Hives, Sum 41, Iggy Pop, NoFX, The Offspring, Weezer, Millencolin, Linkin Park, Avril Lavigne, Bad Religion, The Bloodhound Gang, Anti-Flag, Die Toten Hosen, Jimmy Eat World, AFI, Die rzte or even The Cure and Judas Priest.

Furthermore the band took part in the Punkvoter.com Campaign and added a special song to the Rock Against Bush Vol. 2 Compilation as one of three non-american bands on the record. Soundtrack songs and a cameo performance in movies and arcade videogames such as Burnout 3, Guitar Hero, Need For Speed Underground or MVP Baseball along with Germanys first and longest existing band podcast got THE DONOTS even more international attention.

An impressive history for sure. But the best is yet to come.

In 2006 the band felt it was time for a change and terminated their deal with GUN Records. In order to maintain their freedom of choice and to provide the perfect representation of their upcoming release, THE DONOTS have chosen to start their own label SOLITARY MAN RECORDS in Europe for COMA CHAMELEON and will release the album in Japan by joining forces with HOWLING BULL RECORDS in a SOLITARY MAN/HOWLING BULL joint venture sublabel called BULL/MAN RECORDS.

Furthermore the five Westphalians felt it was about time to re-invent and improve THE DONOTS sound and to revive the spirit of the old DIY days at the same time. Both worlds had to find their way onto the new album which the band finally entitled COMA CHAMELEON.

Call it bravery. Call it tradition. COMA CHAMELEON is the perfect combination of all the DONOTS powers and most definetly the most important and courageous step the band has ever made
