--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DIVERGENCE POINT began under the name A Morbid Escape with bassist Elena and drummer/vocalist Rachel. Guitarist Mike joined soon after, and to play shows, Rachel would sing while a friend sat in on drums. Marissa joined the band last, shifting Rachel back to drums and usurping the microphone. The name change to Divergence Point was quickly agreed upon soon after.

Although they would prefer to avoid being labeled as any particular genre, Divergence Point plays fast rock music with varying influences from punk, metal, emo, and hardcore. The band members all have quite varying tastes in music, which influence the band in various and not always obvious ways -- vocalist Marissa, the only female tenor in her school's choir, sings low and screams loudly with clear post-hardcore influences, and yet cites powerpop singer/keyboardist Rachel Minton of Zolof the Rock & Roll Destroyer as her hero.

While Divergence Point keeps a few cover songs in their repertoire, their primary focus is on their original songs. Lyrics and music are a collaborative effort by the entire band. "Just because you don't play that instrument in the band, doesn't mean you can't write parts for it," vocalist Marissa explains. "We mess around on each other's instruments a lot, writing riffs for each other."

Divergence Point's four-song demo, recorded, mixed, and mastered by Chris Buzby -- keyboardist of prog-rock band Echolyn -- has earned them a small but loyal group of fans. The band is currently looking for shows to play and hopes to put together a small local tour by the summer.

The band also has a myspace page, which can be found here.

Lead vocalist Marissa also has a solo side project, Less Regrets, whose purevolume page is here.
