"They look like homeless people!" (Audience member, Nottingham, UK)
"This is thrilling, edgy post-hardcore with huge choruses and colossal vats of energy. Fucking awesome!" (Kerrang KKKKK)
"These Finns plough a furious furrow of post-hardcore riffery and staccato punk rock tightness You really should not miss this band." (Drowned In Sound)
Since the release of their sophomore album "First Aid Kit" in 2005, Finland's Disco Ensemble have been a busy bunch. They have shown their acclaimed live energy on numerous festivals (Roskilde, Rock am Ring/Park, Glastonbury etc.), toured clubs relentlessly all over Europe with bands such as Gogol Bordello, Danko Jones, 65daysofstatic and Linkin Park to name a few, signing a deal with Vertigo/Universal and creating a buzz all around, these explosive geeks are ready to become the next Premiere Rock Act of Europe.
When not touring, the boys wake up in their Helsinki- homes, drink 4 cups of coffee and take the bus to rehearsals. There they drink 3 more cups of coffee, grab their instruments and try to create as powerful music as possible. Mikko Hakila (drums), Lasse Lindfors (bass), Miikka Koivisto (voc, keys) and Jussi Ylikoski (guitar) share a passion for hard work, sleeveless shirts and sleeping disorders.
Disco Ensemble's genre-defying sound builds from a wide scale of influences, combining their early day punk/metal influences with almost anything from movie scores to new wave and electro. The truly unique guitar wizardry of Ylikoski combined with the inventive battering of the Hakila & Lindfors- rhythm section construct tight packages of modern rock, varying from full-on punk blasts to epic indie ballads. Topped off with the powerful vocals and inimitable lyrics of Koivisto, Disco Ensemble's song craft and live act are incomparable to anything else.
In the spring of 2008 D.E. set to release their third full-length album titled "Magic Recoveries". Produced by Pelle Gunnerfeldt (The Hives, Refused, Breach, The Robocop Kraus), the record shows the band flourishing, stretching their abilities as song writers and performers. Finding a perfect balance between fury and grace, Magic Recoveries is a jaw-dropping assortment of innovative rock'n'roll, celebrating primal inspiration as the ultimate outlet in a confusing world.
With hairy heads and heavy hearts, Disco Ensemble kick in the door, buy you a drink, knock you down and at the end of the night, carry you safely home.
