Death Metal / Metalcore
The Canadian deathcore six-piece DESPISED ICON have just created one of the most devastating and overall brutal albums to come along in some time. The group's stunning mixture of death metal and grindcore will quickly appeal to fans of such artists as Dying Fetus, Nasum and Premonitions of War, while still being able to catch the attention of fans ranging from Morbid Angel to Terror, among others.
DESPISED ICON was formed back in 2002 by members of Neuraxis, In Dying Days and Heaven's Cry. The group's first album, Consumed By Your Poison , was released in October 2002 on the Canadian-based Galy Records and quickly sent shockwaves throughout the underground metal community. From that moment on, the group played countless shows further establishing their stronghold as one of the genre's finest.
In January 2004, DESPISED ICON added two new members to their line-up, Alexandre Erian (vocals) and Alexandre Pelletier (drums), and quickly returned to the studio to record the Syndicated Murderers EP. After spending most of the past year perfecting their new material going into 2005 proved to be a turning point in the young band's career as it marked the release of their split CD with Bodies In The Gears Of The Apparatus on Relapse Records and a worldwide deal with Century Media Records.
DESPISED ICON's highly anticipated sophomore release, The Healing Process , was produced by guitarist Yannick St-Amand (Ion Dissonance, Neuraxis), mixed by J-F Dagenais (Misery Index, Kataklysm) and mastered by Alan Douches (Shadows Fall, Dillinger Escape Plan). This album is a relentless slab of sheer aggression matched with impeccable time changes and it quickly raises the bar for their peers.
Erian (vocals) further describes the group's excitement: "We are all very excited to join Century Media and can't wait to release The Healing Process . It's a privilege for a young band like us to be part of such a dedicated and hard-working label. The name Century Media is synonymous with metal and we couldn't have found a better family. This means so much to us. We plan on touring as much as possible in 2005. Expect breakdowns as brutal as a kick-in-the-face."
DESPISED ICON are scheduled to embark on a Canadian tour with Premonitions of War and Ion Dissonance this April leading into a performance at the Maryland Deathfest in May. Look for them to embark on a U.S. tour shortly thereafter.
