In the fall of 2003, two punk kids named Emil Poss and Max Redding got together and began to raise hell all around their small town of Vienna, VA. The two formed an instant bond through their love and passion for music of all kinds as well as their deteriorating home lives. WIth no place to spend their time, the two would ride around in Poss' beat up Ford Ranger and listen to bands like Crowbar, Acid Bath, Superjoint Ritual, Pantera, Down, and Metallica. Through this love for the dark side of life and their knack for getting in the face of anything that looked down on them a brotherly bond was formed. As the years have passed, the boys have mellowed out to the sounds of Days of the New, Deadboy and the Elephantmen, Slightly Stoopid, and Pepper. Having listened for long enough, Poss and Redding picked up a couple of guitars to try their hand at songwriting. In August of 2005 they wrote a nine minute epic about learning to deal with the pain of being a downtrodden teenager through smoking a couple of blunts beneath the willow tree in Redding's back yard while watching a tremendous thunderstorm roll in. This seemed as though it would be the break through these two were looking for. With their first song penned down and drilled into their heads, they decided to name the project "Dagon" after a short story by H.P. Lovecraft. That December, the two went into the studio and recorded the tribalesque "Trodding Barefoot" and their epic "Meadow of Time" with percussionist Jordan Teague. Their was little activity with the project from december of '05 to February of '07, but the brotherhood was never broken. Poss and Redding met up with bassist Alex Anderson in October of 2006, but held off on playing music before a true bond was formed with him too. The bond has been formed, the love is strong, and with the warm months of 2007 approaching, new material from the brotherhood will be seen. Their sound as of late has been a melting pot of Travis Meeks like guitar riffs mixed with the southern groove perfected by bands like Down, and Anderson's thumping reggaeish bass lines a la Aston "Family Man" Barret. Through their new found power as a brotherhood, Dagon will soon be a premier act in the Washington D.C. music scene. Dagon is more than a band, its a love for friendship, music, nature, and pure love of having fun.
