Crystal Butterfly (Shuijing Die), the busiest and most respected band in Shanghai, China, working the scene since 1997. They signed a contract with Beijing's indie lable NewBees Music in 2000.
After winning the MTV Band Call competition in 1998, Crystal Butterfly has experienced a steady rise in popularity.
The four members have been playing in various local bars for several years forging their skills on the circuit.
Though they write their own music, they often play cover songs, focusing on U2, The Cure, Radiohead and other British bands. Actually U2's "With or Without You" is part of their regular repertoire and always receives an overwhelming response from the audience.
"Crystal Butterfly plays sophisticated and highly melodic modern rock - polished, hook-laden, and very listenable," commented a critic. "They have a distinct sound that is reminiscent of The Cure without Robert Smith's maddeningly whiny vocals and a bit like U2's good stuff pre-Rattle and Hum."
In May 2005, Newbees Music released Crystal Butterfly's debut album "Magical Mystery Tour".
