Ahoy Rude-Punks,

We're Contradiction, a South African Ska/Punk band!

The story of the band Contradiction cannot be properly told without observing the circumstances that preceded the formation of the group. The story starts in a little known suburb called Table View.

During the period of 2003-2004 in Table View, there was a clear deficiency in people who listened to any acceptable music, and in musicians that werent in any way hip-hop orientated.
However, one night, at a party, a bass player by the name of Nicholas Rice was jamming up a storm. A DJ by the name Jonathan Bandli was letting rip on the turntables, when he heard some sweet bass rhythms emanating from the hosts lounge. The two got talking, and Jon found out that Nick knew that he was a drummer in another band. This sprung to mind many ideas in the heads of the two musicians. Jon was looking to expand his musical horizons, and Nick was looking for a band. Some time was needed for those ideas to sprout and materialise, but sure enough, the two ended up jamming.

However, it was not in the format that had been discovered that night. This was so, as Nick had picked up the lead guitar, and Jon, the bass. Quickly, the two were playing a range of Blink 182 songs.
This went on for a couple of weeks, all before the duo realised they were missing a crucial facet of rock music, the drummer! They held a few auditions, but to no avail, as no alleged drummer possessed the skill required to drive such an outfit.
A week passed when during a session; Jon noted correctly that Nicks little brother Matthew was a skilled drummer.

They quickly invited him up stairs to come tap along, and they soon discovered that they had found their missing element. After the trio had practised their Blink covers for two weeks and decided that it was time to have a gig!
They played at a friends house party, and the gig went down, as any first gig should.

The band then has a breakthrough period, starting with the winning of the Parkland 2005 Paul Bothner Battle Of The Bands, as they went on to produce some successful original songs after this. Contradiction is now, Jonathan Bandli (Bass guitar, backing vocals, 17yrs age), Nicholas Rice (Lead guitar, lead vocals, 16yrs age), and Matthew Rice (Drums, 13yrs age). They describe their style as Contra-Ska, a blend of roots-ska, punk and African rhythms combined with issues pertinent to each band member. The output is fun-loving music that any one can get into have a good skank to!

A few bands that are quoted as having a hand in inspiring Contradictions beginning are: Blink 182, Green Day, Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Finkelstiens. Bands that inspired their current musical status include: Hog Hoggidy Hog, Half Price, 7th Son, The Rudimentals, Captain Stu & The Llamas, Tonight We Die, Pennywise, Less Than Jake and Reel Big Fish. Some bands that Contradiction has jammed with include: Impropriety, New Altum, The Awful Truth, Millhouse, Checked Zebra and a huge host more.

Contradiction want to see themselves entering into a regular gigging regime within the local underground punk scene in the near future, whilst all the time making the crowd have an awesome time and skank!
