Despite having been around for such little time, since 2001, Children of Gaia has become the biggest South American hardcore promise. After taking part in big international tours and festivals around Brazil with bands such as Heaven Shall Burn, Maroon, Nueva Etica, Purification, etc these long time local sxe kids developed tight and brutal live performances, emerging as an extremely powerful addition to the roster of militant straight edge bands Liberation has become acknowledged for. Their debut material, four songs on a split CD with Confronto, on Liberation, has hit heavy music enthusiasts really badly, delivering some of the most brutal metal hardcore since bands like Day of Suffering and Earth Crisis split up: Children Of Gaia kicks off the split and tears right into the brutality with some deadly metalcore featuring stomping breakdowns and headbanging riffing." Apart from playing some truly fierce metal hardcore, Children of Gaia is, more importantly, of course, an outspoken band about animal rights and straightedge, issues this band is never afraid of pushing or confronting people with, as they clearly stated in a recent interview for aversionline.com : "One of the main goals from the beginning really was to be a vegan/vegetarian straightedge band. We all felt that it would be really important to take a stand and talk about how we feel about those subjects, even though we knew that this would repel some of our potential audience, but we don't give a fuck about that. Fuck it if straightedge isn't cool anymore, to us straightedge really means something, and we're fucking proud to say so!", "(...) we're showing that we are really proud of what we stand for and that we have nothing to hide, I think it's very sad that bands are scared to admit who they really are, and some even use the excuse, 'We don't like labels', to somehow hide the fact that they are straightedge.". Trying to follow their labelmates footsteps (Point of No Return, Nueva Etica, I Shot Cyrus and Discarga), which have toured Europe successfully, Children of Gaia will be one of the next South American hardcore acts on Liberation touring Europe this summer. From August 27th to September 18th, they will be on tour over there for the first time, with confirmed appearances at great shows and festivals in Germany, Poland, as well as at the awaited Ieper Fest 2004. They are also soon recording their first full length CD, on Liberation, a realease that will certainly turn Children of Gaia into one of the South American hardcore heavy weights.
