Here we have a self-released title from the Washington band Cavalier. With a big indie-rock sound and an arsenal of instruments they come out swinging with huge arena melodies and hooks.
So lets look at this band, its safe to say Cavalier are an easygoing band with calm music that could easily compare to bands like Days Away, but still being in a league of their own. Instrumentation in this release is very impressive as they are probably one of the most creative bands I have reviewed in quite some time. Now when I come to think of slow moving bands I usually think, well this could be really boring, or it can be good. Low and behold it was good. Not only is it a slow record it is also catchy with songs like Stop The Time. Did I mention for such good production that this entire record is from an independent status? Amazing considering that this release could be sitting on a shelf with just about any major label name branding their logo on the back.
This record is a solid release from the band and I honestly cannot wait to see what happens next for them. A word or warning though, if you are going to fall asleep to this record, beware of the last track Oh The Irony get ready for something that might freak you out. As I was going to sleep the last track of this got onto my shuffle settings. Okay cool, but at about 1:40 into the song a childs voice says open your eyes. This totally caught me at a surprise and had me clawing at the ceiling like a cat who got his tail pulled. Seriously it sounds like one of those kids from Village of The Damned mixed in there. I didnt even know if it was part of the record, I thought some kid was in my house. Anyway, good release but .5 off for the cardiac arrest.
