March 29
Hey, guys... OK. Here we go. The big news...
• RECORD RELEASE MAY 29th - So I finally did it. I finished a full length record in my weeks home off the road this year. It's called "Who You Are" and has 11 songs...
JEALOUSY / RIDE / WHO YOU ARE / THE GLASS PARADE / HONESTLY / THE LAST ONE / LONELIEST GIRL IN THE WORLD / IF YOU WERE HERE / THINK AWHILE / ALL THE RAGE / PRECIOUS LIE

This is what the record looks like. I went up in a helicopter over LA two weeks ago with my friend/ amazing photographer Michael Muller - he was strapped in a safety harness, hanging out of the open door, and taking these fantastic photos thousands of feet in the air. It was insane but well worth it because we're all still alive.
And, with that finished, I made a deal with someone to help out. Doing all this out of my house for years started to get a little tough with all the touring, so I signed a deal last week with bluhammock music to release the record with my label Procrastination Music. It's still an indie release, but there's actually money to promote it so the new music will get out there a little more than my last two records. Speaking of which...
• LISTEN NOW - Go to www.myspace.com/carybrothers to hear the first single "Who You Are" right now.
• EPs GOING OUT OF PRINT - With the new record coming, I'm pulling the old EPs off the market. If you were thinking about buying those songs on "All The Rage" and "Waiting For Your Letter," go do it now because they will not be available after early May. I love those EPs, but with the new record, it's time to move forward. Those songs may re-appear at a later date, but for now they are hittin the road.
• TOUR DATES - And I'm hitting the road opening for Brandi Carlile at the end of April. I'll be playing acoustic guitar and piano, with my friend Kestrin rocking the cello and singin' with me. And I'm putting together the full band summer headlining tour right now. Here are the dates for the Brandi Carlile tour:
Apr 24 / Birchmere / Alexandria, VA - BUY TICKETS

So that's it for now. Much, much more news to come in the next few months with a new video, touring, and press all over the place. Now more than ever I need your support. Even if you just listen, you're doing a whole lot, and I can't thank you enough. Everything kind of changes now with this record, and I can't wait to see what's next.
Be good,
-CB

IN THE STUDIO, OFF THE ROAD... 02.02.07
Hi, everybody.
Being home and off the road for a few weeks has been amazing. I've been spending a lot of time at my place with a guitar in my hand/piano under my fingertips writing tunes. Oh, and I got a dog. Her name's Blue (no, not because of "Blue Eyes" - she had that name when I got her). She's a three-year-old rescue dog. She rules. I forgot how much I missed having a dog...
As for music stuff, I'm working hard to finish the full length record by the end of the month for a release in late May. I just finished a New Order-like track called "The Last One" that made a good friend of mine start dancing uncontrollably like Molly Ringwald in "The Breakfast Club" when she heard it, so that's a good sign. Speaking of the Ringwald, my cover of The Thompson Twins' "If You Were Here" from "Sixteen Candles" is gonna be on this record, too. I re-recorded "Honestly" from the first EP, slowed it down a bit, and got my buddy Matt Hales from Aqualung to play a gorgeous piano part. A slightly tweaked version of "Ride" will be on the album as well.
People have asked me what this record sounds like, and I keep saying "mellow epic." A lot of these songs have a slow build into powerful crescendos, and I'm digging that a lot. It's good night music. For some people maybe it will have meaning. At the very least, I think it'll be a good record to "make out" to :) The tunes are melodic but not built-for-radio pop songs. Since I've decided to release it independently, I don't feel like I sacrificed anything to reach a bigger audience, and I'm really happy. I just finished the demo of a new one called "Who You Are" that may be my favorite. It's hard to say that, though, cuz they all have a little bit of my truth in them. I tend to get sick of songs fast, so I really shouldn't judge my own stuff. To me, writing a song is like having a conversation - sometimes I don't need to have that conversation again, but that doesn't mean someone else might not like it.
People have asked if the original "Blue Eyes" is going to be on this record, and the answer is no. That song has been great to me, but I recorded that three years ago, and it found it's home on the Garden State Soundtrack and my first EP. That's enough. Time to move on. I might do a stripped down piano version or something special like that, but the original version won't be on any new releases. And I like these new songs better anyway.
I'm back the studio on Monday to track a couple of new ones, then back to put finishing touches on the record by March. Then I get to hit the road again. Sorry I have to wait until the very end of Spring to get the music out there, but it takes time to get these things in stores and do press and make posters and all that stuff that has nothing to do with the songs. ...
Other than that, I did play a three night show at the Sundance Film Festival with a bunch of friends from the Hotel Cafe as well as new friends that got on that show. It was myself and Josh Radin and Jim Bianco and Yamagata along with M Ward and Alexi Murdoch and many more. A total blast of a weekend. And if you haven't yet heard of Greg Laswell, go check out his stuff here. His original tunes are fantastic, and his uber-mellow piano version of "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" is a heartbreaker. It's the ..1 folk tune on iTunes right now - love it when good people win.
So that's what I got. This is gonna be a crazy year, and there is much more to come. Hope your New Year has been all ya wanted it to be.
Be good,
-CB
p.s. You need live shows to see? Go check out Joshua Radin on his solo tour and Aqualung out on the road with Pete Yorn.
p.p.s. Go see PAN'S LABYRINTH in theaters. It's tough and beautiful and nothing like that Tom Cruise flick where he runs around in the forest shirtless with unicorns (um... that was LEGEND). Del Toro is a one of the new cinema gods. PAN'S is not a flick you wanna wait to watch on DVD. Go. Now. Bye.
