From the time she was 16 years old, Martine Groulx has immersed herself in music. Whether as manager and owner of Blind Records, as co-owner of the Cartel music studio, or as radio host for radiolibre.ca, the HEC graduate has dealt firsthand with virtually every aspect of the music industry.

A veritable firecracker, the singer-songwriter is undaunted by the task of balancing the many facets of her career. Her passion is fuelled by the mission in which she has invested herself, as she aims to ensure that the local music scene gets its proper due. As the head of SOPREF LOCAL Distribution, Martine takes the livelihood of local independent artists to heart, given that it is a community in which she also plays a direct role, by fronting her own project, Camaromance.

Her first album, Empty Picture Frames, was released in 2004. At the time, the project was a duo, in which Martine sang alongside Gabriel Rousseau, who is now a member of the bands Statue Park and Chinatown. Following a cross-Canada tour and a few significant hurdles, Martine decided to go it alone.

The result? A wellspring of new sounds, new stories, and a fresh direction. As Martine sat down to compose her second album, Different Paths, to be released on November 15, she proved that Camaromance is nowhere near ready to be put up on blocks.

The subjects of love, life, and death are all dealt with in an elegant fashion in her folk-pop compositions, as they reach out and grab listeners, whether she is alone with her guitar on stage or backed up by her musicians.
