Described by the Seattle Weekly as "a composer whose multimedia works are as exquisite and imaginative as they are unclassifiable," Byron Au Yong's influences range from sacred ceremonies to action flicks.
Seattle projects include Ishquoh: Where Sounds Meet, a site-specific work performed by six children and a 'cellist alongside abandoned railroad tracks, Piao Zhu: Flying Bamboo, a musical ceremony created for the Seattle Asian Art Museum, Surrender: A T'ai Qi Cantata premiered by The Esoterics, and YIJU: Songs of Dislocation presented at the Jack Straw New Media Gallery.
Internationally, his music has been performed at the Jeonju Sanjo Festival in South Korea, the Tokyo Art Museum in Japan, and the Hochschule fur Musik und Theater Hamburg in Germany.
