Funk stink like nawlins crawfish. Tell Dr. Zig come get a whiff of this.
You fucking feel that? Thats just a taste of wha-ya get wif Brown Brigade because this shizzy is coming at you like hip-hop metal funk styleee. Your ass will join the Brown Brigade and celebrate the culinary diversity of Brown Brigades funk laden rock gumbo.
When asked about the conception of Brown Brigade, Dave Brownsound laughs, strokes his goatee wistfully and mumbles almost inaudibly, like he is lost on some forgotten battlefield in the past, Driveway concert. For Whom the Bell TollsNacho cheese.
Standing on the roof of his dads Pinto in the driveway of their humble Ajax home, an eight year old Dave and his ten year old delinquent cousin Vaughn entertained all who had gathered with their rendition of For Whom the Bell Tolls. It was, well, it was what it was. Theyd done promotion for the gig with great innocent ambition; the two of them scoured the neighbourhood telling everyone that there would be a concert, complete with complimentary Doritos truly ahead of their time and long before any of this corporate sponsorship shit. The day of the concert arrived and they had enough money for one can of pop and one small bag of Nacho flavored Doritos (before any of those other corporate bullshit flavours). Vaughn and Brownsound still (unanimously) consider the gig a huge success.
Hey cats did it not work? Look at the fucking loyalty and then talk to us.
Almost twenty years later, some of those very people that were present at that concert have stood as supporters at Brown Brigade concerts. That is loyalty, Dave. Youre right, asshole.
Flip through the photo album to 2001 when the bands now manager, Parkside Mike, was the A&R rep for Aquarius Records (another hilarious story for another day). Acknowledging a similar love of metal music with Brownsound, Parkside handed him a copy of Frank Zappas legendary album, Joes Garage. It gave Brownsound the inspiration to write music in his mind, music that didnt necessarily want to have intentions on cracking Billboards top 20 for pop music, or have million dollar video budgets. Brownsound and his metal slaying cousin Vaughn Lal started jamming more seriously and with more intent. Together they laid the foundation for many of the songs that the Brigade has been recently performing. They share the songwriting responsibilities equally, bringing in their respective influences and experience to the table to ROLL UP THE MOTHERFUCKING BLEND.
Dave Brownsound (guitars and vocals) has spent the last ten years as part of Ajaxs most hated multi-platinum band, Sum 41. Signed to Aquarius Records in Canada and Island DefJam for the rest of the world, Sum 41 has released an ep, Half Hour of Power, and three albums, All Killer No Filler, Does This Look Infected? and Chuck, toured relentlessly and gained the respect of not only their peers, but also their mentors such as Metallica and Iron Maiden. Brownsound was also part of the now infamous trip to the Congo that the band made in 2004 in order to make a documentary about the effects that war had on that regions children. During their trip, they were caught in the unrest, being trapped under fire in Bukavu before being evacuated by the UN and brought home. Brownsound left the band in early 2006 to work more intensely on Brown Brigade.
Together with delinquent Vaughn (bass), they recruited Johnny No Triggers (drums), from the band Suckershot, Craig Pattison (guitar and wizard) and Cess Rock (MC) to finish the job. With collective influences that include funk, old school hip-hop, metal and rock, Brown Brigades special blend will put you on your ass, the way you want it. Motor skill issues. Thats you post-Brigade. The Browness is in da houseness. Auralius Brunius Maximus. The Brown Knight summons you like a maiden to dance in his court, to sire his lesion and legions. The Brown Knight. Love him. Fear him. Smell his putrid wrath. Joy in his spoils of freeing the musical realm. Nothing about this band is ordinary. With a Pennywise tour across Canada as a notch on their belt already and signed to Aquarius Records, Brown Brigade are entering the studio to record their first full length album and unleash the Brown darkness upon those awaiting facial lacerations.
