Road Notes and Happenings
blog post
Greetings all!
Well, it's been a busy time for us the past month. Several shows and a couple of roadtrips later, we're all pretty exhausted (but stoked about being and staying busy, musically).
About a month ago we rented a U-Haul, hitched it to the back of Richard's truck (Big Sexy), and headed out for Richmond to play at Alley Katz. 3 1/2 hrs later, we arived to find that we were the only one of four bands to show up (two of which were signed and touring)...and the show was cancelled. We'll be back at Alley Katz sometime in the future. Rock.
On a side note, there is nothing strange or out of the ordinary about a bright red Ford F-150 SuperCrew with a trailer sitting in a dark alley on the south side of Richmond near dark - nothing at all.
We then played at Amplified, Pt. II, put on by Radford Cru at Radford University. The Radford Cru band played, as well, and the headline act was Point of Honor. It was awesome getting to rock out for God with all these guys.
We just got back from a 2-day trip this past weekend. Last Friday night we played at Attitudes in Blacksburg. Saturday morning/afternoon, we played at an event sponsored by Salem Baptist Church in Sparta, VA. I mention the location of SBC because it is not located in Salem, VA (about 40 minutes from Blacksburg) but is located in SPARTA, VA (about 4 hours from Blacksburg).
So we played Attitudes, then immediately headed out for Richmond to stay at Snow's house. He's our sound/recording engineer. We got in about 2am and about 5 hours of sleep later, we were up and on our way to Sparta (which happens to be situated nowhere remotely near any interstate - but it is a lovely town out in the country with beautiful fields and forests).
The show went very smoothly except for Jamie breaking his low E string on the first song, feedback that was louder than a Mack truck (oddly enough, it was through the mic I was using for my tin whistle on "Come Home"), and rain. It was an outdoor event.
For this most recent trip across the Commonwealth, we rented another trailer. This one was built in 1960, had one working brake light, a flat, dry-rotted spare tire on a rusted out wheel, and two actual tires that weren't in that much better shape. She was originally white, but had been repainted in a now-flaking white. Oh yeah, and the roof had a crack that leaked (please see note about rain above). I was worried about it spontaneously combusting. But she got the job done...I think I'll name it Susie the Trailer.
We're taking a bit of a break over the summer since we'll be a bit scattered about. We'll be playing some, though. Keep an eye out for us around Virginia Beach/Norfolk, Richmond, Wilmington, NC (for our LT peeps), and maybe around Blacksburg. I'm not sure when we'll be playing or where, but we'll let you know whenever we do anything. We'll pick back up this fall and will play around a LOT more, so stay tuned for updates!
Well, that's about it for now. Keep checking back for updates on upcoming shows and on our upcoming 2nd album project (which we will begin recording this summer). Rock on. Peace.
~Matt
