My name is Brent, and I'm an undergraduate at UCLA. These recordings are me just fooling around.

September 4, 2008 - George Nakano Theater, Torrance

I've recorded a large work which I call Impromptu 2: Sonata. As informal as all my other pieces, it's an overly enthusiastic attempt at a classical sonata-form with several permeating themes throughout. The music quotes from Dies Irae, Lux Aeterna, and several other pieces (see if you can find them!), having an (un)intentional backstory of some kind of redemption as the music transforms the melancholy first theme into a triumphant declaration of joy. Of course, while playing I just go at it, and in no way is this 35-minute performance worthy of anyone's praise, so even the most blasE comments are appreciated. Thanks for listening. (Please excuse the audio quality. I believe it's a hardware issue.)

I. Lento - Allegro moderato (11:12)

II. Andante (6:06)

III. Allegro maestoso (17:08)

Brent, As soon as the first note started to play, I was glued to my chair and next thing I know, I listened to your entire 35-minute sonata. It renders me speechless. To a south-campus major like me, anything or anyone that possesses the authentic dexterity of art, music, and creative writing never ceases to put me in awe and admiration. I by no means can give you professional comments or constructive criticism but I can assure you that if a person who doesn't know much about classical music, like me, can still enjoy and appreciate your work then you have done a splendid job. I think that's genuine. I am so proud to have a talented friend like you, and I can't wait to actually hear you play in person. See you real soon! - Minh Sep 14
