I recently wrote a recipe for vegetarian quiche that will appear in an upcoming issue of Alternative Press magazine. I had so much fun writing it, I thought Id do it again, right here on Purevolume. Only this time, instead of vegetarian quiche, Ill give you my recipe for a quick tofu snack that will enlighten even the most adamant of flesh-eaters. I know I sound like a veggie-fanatic, but Im not. I just like healthy food and I like preparing it.
Here are a few facts about tofu that you might find useful in your next game of video trivia:
*Tofu is Japanese for bean curd.
*Wheat gluten, or seitan, is often mistaken for tofu. Also, its fun to say I love seitan! around relatives.
*There is a pungent variety of gourmet pickled tofu called Stinky Tofu.
*In China, the phrase "to eat tofu" is commonly used to refer to the groping of breasts or other body parts.
Now to the recipe
BAKED TOFU STICKS
Ingredients
1 block extra firm tofu
1 cups cornflake crumbs
1 tbsp seasoned salt
Preheat oven to 350. Pour crumbs and seasoned salt into medium sized bowl and mix thoroughly. Drain tofu and wrap in clean towel. Let sit for at least 10 minutes. Slice tofu in half long ways, and then slice the halves into French fry sized strips. (Should yield about 16 20 sticks). Roll each piece in the cornflake mixture until well coated. Arrange on lightly oiled baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes, or until crumbs are lightly browned and the tofu is slightly hardened. Remove from oven and let cool. Serve with cocktail sauce. Mmmm-boy!
