Members: Brandon S. Hire
I'm Brandon S. Hire, Grunge Rock's Bastard Love Child. As the name implies, I'm a solo artist. But I'm more than that. I'm also the front man for Day Nine, and a freelance studio engineer at Hire Productions. Here's a little info on why I added "Solo Artist" to my bag of tricks.
In 2001, my band Day Nine was tearing apart at the seams. Day Nine had been playing around the Portsmouth Ohio area since 1999, and had released three demo's. We'd been established as the only grunge band in that small area. When we split up in 2001, I decided I was going to move on musically without my former bandmates.
In 2002, I moved from southern Ohio to Columbus Ohio. I was in the process of earning my Associates Degree in Electronic Media at Ohio University when I moved, so I transfered to the OU-Zanesville campus to finish my degree. This new campus and my coursework gave me access to the school's multi-track facility. It is in this facility that my solo career begins to take shape.
I began recording an album that was intended to be released as a new Day Nine demo. The demo would be titled "Orphan", which would symbalize the breakup of the band and my ability to move on from it. However, as time went on, I met guitarist Josh Zeise and drummer Zack Carney. The three of us had formed a new band, and decided to use my old band's name. With a heavier sound, we brought a new life and a fresh start to the Day Nine name.
The songs my bandmates and I were writing were very much different than the songs I'd been working on in the OU-Zanesville studio. I also didn't want to come to my new bandmates with a bunch of songs they didn't have a hand in writing. It is for these reasons I decided to finish "Orphan" and release it as a solo effort. It was at this time that Brandon S. Hire, Grunge Rock's Bastard Love Child, was born. "Orphan" was completed in 2004, and songs from this album have been featured on compilations, independant film soundtracks, and distributed online through snocap, itunes, and more!
