so over finals week of the fall 2006 semester, i was really really bored. i had two finals: one on the very first day of finals, and one on the very last. So in the in-between time, i decided to sit down and plunk out a few tunes that have been stewing in my brain for a while. the first song (my most recent addition to purevolume), is a song taken from a bunch of places inside of me. it is semi-autobiographical/semi-fiction. the song uploaded is an acoustic version. purevolume only lets me upload four at a time, so once the full-on version is finished, i'll upload it. let me know what you think :)

So, I didn't tell you this: but the original songs I posted on the website on April 1, weren't "Final Drafts." They were, (as the Sound Engineer put it) "Wal-Mart Mixes." But my excitement for the new recordings helped me to disregard that statement and to post the songs anyway, despite their unfinished form. But thats all changing this week...
I've been back in the sound lab remixing and remastering the two new songs, adding and subtracting elements to make a richer sound. Its been tough, I usually spend about three hours at a time in front of those dual computer screens, but the results have been worth it. Today, you can check out the new mix of "Adoration Falling." with a new bass line and drum beat. Its a new feel, but I think it works. Let me know what YOU think!
The second draft of Find You is next up, then its back to square one; i'm in the final stages of writing two brand new pieces of music. More info to come, so check back soon!
Thanks for listening

The song "Find You" was originally written by a man named Bob Fox. This semi-autobiographical song tells the story of Bob's search for the right woman, in spite of an unbelievably stressful and nomadic lifestyle.
I came across the song after a night of fine dining and piano serenading at Sullivan's Steakhouse with the always-a-blast Rothstein family. Around the piano that night, Randy Rothstein had mentioned a number of times that i reminded him of his longtime friend named Bob, who was similarly obsessed with music, but who now was going through a tough time battling leukemia. Over the next year and a half, and after several more visits to Sullivan's, i learned more and more about Bob Fox and became interested in hearing some of the songs he had written. After some LP to CD/Reel-to-Reel to CD conversion, and some first class postage, I got my hands on some of Bob's early recordings from his glory days in a professional studio. The stuff was awesome...
With the help of my buddy Rob, we decided to take one of Bob's songs to the studio. "Find You" is the result of some experimentation (the song was originally very country/guitar-driven, where as the cover is more piano-driven with a flavorful guitar nod to the original). I recorded "Find You" not only to showcase my musical interpretation of a great piece of music, but also to artistically salute a man with whom I've never met, yet for whom I have the deepest respect.

New Songs are hot off the press! Spent the afternoon in the recording studio today, with a few of my closest friends (thanks again to Julia, Rob, Goose, Ali and Clark). Each song has a backstory, and both will be told in future blogs. Right now, i'm too excited to type...hope you enjoy the songs!!!

good news! a class that i'm taking has an assignment that requires students to take to the recording studio to record faux-audition cd's. So thats pretty sweet, but it gets better: Turns out I get three and a half hours in the recording studio, for pretty cheap...FREE actually! I'm going to be recording two cover tunes, one christian and one secular. The Christian song is a twist on a tradition Catholic Hymn called "Adoration Falling" with an incredible Chorus addition written by the genius of Matt Maher. The second song was written by a man by the name of Bob Fox, a friend of mine's family friend (does that make sense?). Its title is TBD, but its an acoustic sounding "search" song. This will all make much more sense on Saturday April 1, the day those songs will first be made available here on Pure Volume. Stay Tuned!
