New Music from Billy Falcon: MADE MAN
Hi Everyone,
Remember when you first heard rock-n-roll?
Remember the first record you bought, and the excitement of rushing
home to drop it on the turntable for the first listen?
Remember when music was not a corporate endeavor?
Well, I sure do. And recently, I experienced those feelings again when I
unwrapped the new CD from Nashville based singer/songwriter
Billy Falcon titled MADE MAN.
Billy, as you may know, has been making great music for over thirty years now.
Perhaps you remember his Pretty Blue World record. (Power Windows)
What a classic rock record!
He has also co-written ten songs on the last four Bon Jovi records.

In a recent discussion about the new record, Billy had this to say:
I started writing and singing songs when I was 8 years old, its all I ever wanted to do. Sometimes it feels like a curse, but when its right, when my stupid little brain connects with something outside and Im able to write something smarter than I am, that moves people to smile, laugh, cry, hope, believe, to think a better thought, then I know that Gods given me a gift and Im using it. When that happens I swear I feel like Im flying. Flying is good. I hope you get what Im saying.
I recently made the decision to write more, and start a band with friends and thats what I did. My friends Michael Spears, Johnny Telucci, Joe Porter, and Brian Hall came over to the house with their guitars, drums, amps, and keyboards. We started making a lot of noise like when I was 15 in my mothers basement.
After the first rehearsal I called Michael and said, "Michael what do you think, am I out of my mind trying to do this at this stage of the game, do these songs suck"? Of course Michael answered yes to my questions. [Just kidding} With those voices in my head telling me that this was a silly idea I continued to rehearse with the band.
Every week I added a song or two and after a few weeks it started to sound like something, like we were really onto something special. When we went into the studio a few months ago, I was anxious to see if it translated to something special on tape {though the only tape in a studio is scotch tape} and now that the process is complete, I think it does.
I cant wait for you to hear it; the album is titled "Made Man"

If you take one spoon of Tom Petty, one spoon of Jon Bon Jovi (solo), one spoon of John Prine and spice it with John Mellencamp, Tom Waits and Elvis Costello you have a musical meal called BILLY FALCON.
I believe a lot of you guys already knows this and are aware of the man and his music. I have reviewed two of his albums here at the site before and theyre both good solid albums in the genre somewhere between Midwest rock, singer songwriter and the rootsy Nashville-scene. But the new one is even a little better than these two previous reviewed ones here at the melodic.net.
The songwriting is all through good and the production is solid as a rock. The album is slightly different in the sound and is a little more rootsy which suits Billys voice really nice and one example of this is The Rest Of The Song which I want to put in front of everything else.
This is such a fabulous tune. Its like the perfect mix between Blake Morgan and Tom Waits. And there are plenty more on this album I can highly recommend like Brick Of A Bridge and the John Prine goes Tom Petty smelling Mr Smith. Nah enuff said this album is at it feels now the best one Billy Falcon have done and were speaking about ten ones to choose from.
I know I have delivered three 4 star-reviews on one week but what the hell can I do when albums are this good? Billy is worth every shining star of it.

Made Man
Wolf at my Door Former Long Islander Billy Falcon, raised in Rosedale, Queens, reappears out of nowhere with Made Man, a rock album so traditional its refreshing. Now based in Nashville, Falcon has amassed 10 albums under his belt during his lengthy career, and his newfound country leanings work well with his rock background to create a satisfying 12-track comeback.
In fact, Falcon has scraped the hair band Long Island corn right off his shoe, emerging as an Americana songwriter with a lot to say. Happy Hour, in particular, sounds like John Hiatt after a three-day bender, which is a compliment of the highest order. Dont Even Think About It has an Elvis Costello-ish meter and vocal, a truly funny lyric, and a rocking backbeat. Brick Off A Bridge is a moving and personal song with strings, no less a perfect example of Falcons newly mature, fully-realized storytelling. Its a stunning, romantic piece of work. Falcon has also assembled a tremendous band, including guitarist Bryan Hall, vocalists Rose Falcon and April Sandridge, and drummer Johnny Telucci.
So take a bow, Billy Falcon. Unlike so many of your veteran peers, youve cut your hair, turned down the wattage, and let your soul shine through. Made Man may look like homage to The Sopranos, but its a classy, roots rocking revelation.

On Tuesday, September, 19th 2006, round about midnight, Billy Blocks
Western Beat (12th & Porter in Nashville) played host to the album release party for Billy Falcons new record, MADE MAN.
With Jon Bon Jovi and Ritchie Sambora in attendance, excitement permeated the theatre, which was packed beyond capacity with eager fans, which were treated to some amazing performances as Billy, with his band the Falcones, (featuring Michael Spears, bass and Bryan Hall, guitar, from Maydayground, April Sandridge and Billys daughter, Rose Falcon, contributing backing vocals, Bruce Bouton on Lap steel, Tony Harrell on keyboards, Jonathan Yudkin, strings, and Kelly Keegy of Night Ranger, on drums) performed songs from his stellar new record.
Billy opened with a smoking take on Made Man, followed by Mr. Smith,
And Sugar, which set the tone for the evening and had the crowd rockin from the gate!
Then, Billy, with daughter Rose sharing vocals, performed a moving rendition of Brick off a Bridge. Rose then took center stage, stunning the crowd with her performance of Melt Away, a track that may just make a grand appearance on her second record!
Billy continued with Happy Hour, which had the crowd crying in their beer, and proved to be the perfect intro into a moving performance of Good Cry, a new song recently written by Billy and Rose that they intend to record as a duet.
After the crowd had a Good Cry Billy and the Falcones rocked the rafters with
Better Than a Girl, a song reminiscent of something the Glimmer Twins would be proud to have written.
Then Billy launched into the opening chords of his signature song,
Power Windows (Pretty Blue World 1991), which had the crowd buzzing, when suddenly, Jon Bon Jovi strolled on stage and the place erupted as Jon joined Billy and sang an amazing rendition with the crowd joining in.
After telling the crowd how he was a fan of Billys music since the early days, and what a great writer he is, Jon and Billy performed Just Older, a song the two of them wrote in Billys kitchen in Nashville, for Bon Jovis multi-platinum Crush album (2000)
As they sang the chorus they were joined by the overflow crowd:
