Michael Lancaster has been a professional musician since 1992 and piping since 1987. He has a Bachelor of Science in Music from the University of Colorado at Denver where he has also instructed music. He is a member of the American Federation of Musicians, the Denver Musicians Association, Denver Wedding Professionals, Funeral and Memorial Vendors Association of Colorado and a founding member of the Centennial State Pipe Band. Michael has been the representative bagpiper for John Dewar’s Scotch Whisky White Label promotions for five years. He has also been the representative piper for Johnny Walker Scotch Whisky, Murphy’s Stout, Newcastle Ale as well as numerous “Single Malt” labels. Michael has performed at some very prestigious functions: the Columbine Memorial at the Colorado State Capitol, Sun Microsystems John Elway Golf Classic, Norwest Culture Fest, Great American Beer Festival, Cherry Creek Arts Festival and the Easter Sunrise Service at Red Rocks. Michael has performed for such dignitaries as Vice President Al Gore, British Counsel General John McGuire and Colorado Governor Bill Owens as well as high profile clients like John Elway, Mike Shanahan and Michael Jordan. Michael also performs numerous programs through Art Reach. Through Art Reach, Michael educates all ages about the history and traditions of the bagpipe and Celtic music. His Art Reach performances are filled with stories, music, humor, and audience-interaction. Michael currently performs at 250+ functions a year, including weddings, funerals, military functions, schools, retirement homes, golf tournaments, parties, conventions, bars, and more. Michael is a very versatile musician and has the experience to custom tailor any performance to suit any type of function. He also teaches private lessons to 40+ students a week. Michael performs on both the Highland Pipes as well as the quieter Small Pipes for smaller venues. Michael often uses both forms of bagpipe during his performances for a contrast in mood and emotion. Michael possesses an impressive set list, and knows enough material to play for hours. Outside of the bagpipe world, Michael is also a professional guitarist which he has been playing for 27 years. As a guitarist, he teaches and performs most all styles of instrumental and vocal music. His repertoire spans most all styles of music an audience would like to hear. Michael also runs his own recording studio where he composes and records music for film, video and commercials. Michael guarantees the highest standard of quality, excellence and professionalism.
