July Studio Update

blog post
The theme for this months studio update is: Setbacks. Lets explain

While recording another session, Skaught and a friend were having a beer while discussing transitions, melodies and what not till Skaught knocked over his beer, all over his laptop. The laptop contained all the demo tracks and various recordings needed to complete AS- including Chris Ruff from Kaddisflys vocal tracks for the song he sang on.

But luck would somewhat be on our side, and we were able to salvage some of the recordings (including Chris Ruffs takes), but the laptop for now is out of commission till we can get the Sam Adams out of the keys. So even though the progress of the new album seemed halted, we dragged on. We also needed to organize the studio to keep track of what is or isn't finished and created the GRID OF DOOM!

The Grid is a visual aide that lets us (and you the fans) know exactly what instrument is finished so far on the album. As you can see, check marks represent a particular instrument/track of this album that is finished while an X represents an instrument/track that isn't going to be on a particular song. There's still a ton of work to do and it would seem that were a bit behind, but things are moving smoothly and by the time you read this chances are Chris will be done with his drums for the new album.

From the tracks that are finished, I can tell you that Chris played with tremendous strength (like he usually does) and there is a feeling of electricity and energy from his drums alone. But once again we were struck with bad luck, and for some reason drum tracks to the song Never Woke Up disappeared and were no where to be found. So Chris had to track the song twice (thats about 16 hours of ONE song for the studio illiterate) and after a few sessions Chris was feeling a bit drained and we were not capturing the energy we were hoping to, so we brought in a friend to pep him back up.

The Rob, long time friend and drummer for the band Broke, helped Chris transition into a recording machine, and got him pumped to be in the studio again. From there everything has gone according to plan, just a little behind as too be expected when met with a series of unfortunate events. To reward himself for his performance, Chris has vacated to Hawaii where he will be diving into the ocean and pulling lemons off of a lemon tree for his Coronas. Seriously..

The next step in this recording adventure is Brads bass tracks, the first of his three tasks for this album No pressure!

Much love,
Ayin
