August/September/October Studio Update

Posted November 15, 2006

You thought we forgot about you huh?

Well there is tons of news and many issues to cover here at the Ayin camp, so we'll start at the top. Not all news we have is good, in fact most of it is bad.

A couple weeks ago came the departure of Tyler Ipson as guitarist for Ayin. We love Tyler and wish the best for his future endeavors, but it came time to part ways band wise. Stepping in to fill his shoes is a long time friend Christopher Shaun Doucet, who is making great strides within the band. In due time you'll be able to greet Christopher at the next Ayin show!

Oh yeah, the album:

As many of you know we had hoped to release "AS" in the latter end of September and as you can tell that didn't go so well. With Tyler departing and being under many constraints, we found ourselves still behind. Skaught had to go through the album and redo and replace several guitar parts, somewhat mix the album down, Brad had to record piano and clean up some programming, now all that is taken care of about 95% of the instrumentation is finished! We have started on vocals, which has pushed us past the halfway point of completion for this album.

While there hasn't been any technical delays like the beer on the keyboard incident (knock on wood please) we've been putting ourselves under great amounts of pressure and that in itself can cause delays. Ayin has the gift (and curse) of being run by 4 perfectionists, and because of that we all are extremely hard on ourselves when things go wrong or not to our liking. We've all reached bottom, and we've all become burnt out on this band as a whole especially since the past couple of months have not gone according to plan. It's hard not too when you put your heart and soul into something for several months, and get nothing in return.

But there comes a point where the heavy burdens start to lighten, and a collective conscience starts being collective again. After a couple rough weeks we picked up the slack, got almost a full set solid with new Chris, and have even got some artwork started with friend Phil Istomin (a.k.a. MANICproject). Of course not too many details can be given at this time, maybe next month we'll get into that.

So with the moment of doubt out of our system, we're back hard at work to finish this god forsaken album before the year ends. If you feel so inclined, leave us some love, comments, emails of passion, or recipes to groove to.

Till next time.

Ayin
