Like many long lasting acts today, Ayin, the experimental rock quartet, has proven to have the ability to consistently reinvent them selves while still maintaining their trademark Ayin sound, combining electronic soundscapes with rhythmic rock compositions. Their new album The Persistent Divide is no exception as it hints a new found direction anchored with their rock sound.
The band which consists of Bassist, Keyboardist, and Programmer Brad Verrier, Drummer Chris Hancock, Guitarist and Pianist Christopher Doucet, and Vocalist, Guitarist and Engineer Skaught Parry, have been working hard to provide their diverse group of listeners a taste of all of their influences which include Electronica, Film Music, 80's Pop, and Modern Rock.

It's hard to believe that it has taken almost 1 whole year for us to record and compile these songs into our first album. So much time and effort has been spent that it really seems like its been 4 years for us, so as you can imagine we're ready to get out of the studio and start playing some live shows again.
Back in April we started with recording some simple demo tracks just to hear what some of the songs sounded like and to make note of where we wanted to take them. Come late May/June we hit the studio hard. Every single Saturday (and sometimes Sunday) from June 3rd to September 30th we would be in our studio at 7 A.M. to get in the most recording that we could.
We didn't exactly have a choice to record that early, since our studio is in the nest of nearly 45 studios, and walls there are not exactly sound proof, and bands are not exactly quiet. In order to make sure that other bands rehearsals were not bleeding through onto our recordings, we had to get there before anyone was there.
Taxing doesn't come close to describe how we felt.
Some days our recordings would be cut short by other musicians with the same mentality, and an entire morning would be a complete waste. Some days we would be too tired, or other days we would lay the best tracks we've ever laid down. Regardless we would be there every morning till tracking was complete.
This discipline actually may come through when you hear the album, since it pretty much has consumed our lives since April. Our close friends have told us numerous times we're crazy, but dedicated and determined to see this projects end.
_
Now some of you may be wondering why the album isn't called something in Latin or what we told you it was, and the answer is to protect this album for as long as we can from thieves. Under some circumstances we learned that there is a website that has illegally stolen and is currently distributing our E.P. "Beauty & Horrors". This website exists is Russia where music laws and rights to the recordings are ran completely different then they are run here in the states, so there for nothing can be done to stop these guys.
But right now more or less this website is doing us a favor by giving us publicity and distribution for free. Granted it sucks we won't be getting a cut of the profits for our hard work, but it is our first effort, we're beyond money and we've created something better since then.
Which brings me to the final point of this months update, the official release party for "The Persistent Divide" will be March 23rd.
We're working on getting an all ages party the very next night, so check our page daily for that update. Expect the ability to purchase the album through iTunes and other internet mediums, and we'll do what we can to get it in stores.
To our fans everywhere, to everyone that comes to our shows, to everyone that actually follows these letters, to all our friends and family that have put up with us, to everyone that supports us and believes in us: this album is for you. Thank you, and hopefully we'll see you all soon.

December 19
It's that time yet again
To start this month's studio update, -we- the boys in Ayin have been extremely busy as usual. Let it be our day jobs, that awesome Christmas rush to get that prized parking spot in front of the mall before that lame ass - blue haired granny does, or finishing our first album we haven't had a ton of time to ourselves.
If things continue the way we hope them too, that's something that won't change even after the holidaze (check that out! I used popular terminology!). Sometimes it can seem a bit daunting, but it will be worth it to bring the new album, and some new merchandise (including a new t-shirt design from MANICproject) to all of you at the shows that will be coming up in the New Year.
So enough about the personal things of our lives, lets get why you really clicked on the link that says "Studio Update".
As of December 16th 2006, tracking for this album is COMPLETE! Vocals, drums, piano, guitar and bass are all finished, all that's left is some post-production (or as the studio nerds call it "ear candy"), some very intense mixing, a final attempt at mastering, and then its off to be cloned into thousands of purchasable replicas for the final destination of your very own CD player.
Even though the end is closer than it ever has, it will still be a bit before we release it due to all the work we still have to do.
While we are taking care of all the legalities, finishing everything else sonically, our good friend Phil Istomin of the MANICproject will be finishing up on the visual aspect of the album. For those of you unfamiliar with Phil's work, do yourself a favor and log onto manicproject.com or myspace.com/manicproject and check out his art (or music or photography for that matter), to get a glimpse of what the album will look like. The actual art of the album doesn't appear on his site, but you'll get the sense of why he was our first and only choice for this task.
Now for those of you that have been tracking this albums progress since we started, you may remember that this album is basically about the experience and influence that we as humans live in this particular day and age, and how those experiences and influences can cause a divide between us. Let it be about war, politics, relationships, drugs, or the general media, everyone has an opinion that they feel persistent on. We think Phil found the perfect way to visualize this concept, and really bring it to life.
The end is in sight, and we're extremely excited to bring this to all of you. Hopefully you'll be as excited to get it as we are to give it to you. Till the next update:
Happy Holidaze,
Ayin
p.s. feel free to get us presents, we're pretty easy to please. j/k

Just another Friday night in Utah - with the exception that this particular Friday I had something to look forward to - a show featuring two of Utah's greatest local bands - Ayin and The New Nervous.
When The New Nervous took the stage, I was instantly locked into the music. I was amazed. Thrown by crescendos and taken back by diminuendos, every change seemed to match my evolving mood and somehow get to me more than ever before. The New Nervous is simply artistic. The lyrics are metaphors - describing a life that you seem to want to break out of without leaving entirely behind. Song by song, change by change, chord by chord - I was enthralled.
The unique voice and passion of singer Scott Shephard combined with deep jazz-like bass lines from Josh Dunn, ambient harmonies and chord progressions by Kellen Holgate and the sharp snare of Ryan Hone blend to create the perfect mood and tone that should be known only as The New Nervous.
Nervous indeed, after such a great set, I waited with even more anticipation for Ayin to push me past that edge I was on the verge of. Overwhelmed by possibilities, I let go and simply listened. Despite technical difficulties, Ayin swept the audience with obvious talent. Gracefully savoring their technical moments, each member stands distinct in style and talent.
Lead vocalist, Skaught Parry has a voice that sounds crisp and innocent and lyrics defined by great imagery and emotion. Bassist, Brad Verrier is one of the greatest bass players in all of Utah. Jamming in perfect-bass-stance using walking bass lines and chords combined with effects, Brad can easily shame the usual, ambient rock bass players who tend to only use two strings, if that. As a new addition to the band, guitarist Chris Doucet added additional ambiance and backed Skaught's guitar playing creating a more bold and complete sound. Last but not least, drummer Chris Hancock is always entertaining to watch. With a concise use of his snare and an array of time changes, Chris makes the life of a drummer look glamorous and incredibly easy.
Together, fusing into a one of a kind symmetry, Ayin is a band packed to impress any fan from any musical background.

You thought we forgot about you huh?
Well there is tons of news and many issues to cover here at the Ayin camp, so we'll start at the top. Not all news we have is good, in fact most of it is bad.
A couple weeks ago came the departure of Tyler Ipson as guitarist for Ayin. We love Tyler and wish the best for his future endeavors, but it came time to part ways band wise. Stepping in to fill his shoes is a long time friend Christopher Shaun Doucet, who is making great strides within the band. In due time you'll be able to greet Christopher at the next Ayin show!
Oh yeah, the album:
As many of you know we had hoped to release "AS" in the latter end of September and as you can tell that didn't go so well. With Tyler departing and being under many constraints, we found ourselves still behind. Skaught had to go through the album and redo and replace several guitar parts, somewhat mix the album down, Brad had to record piano and clean up some programming, now all that is taken care of about 95% of the instrumentation is finished! We have started on vocals, which has pushed us past the halfway point of completion for this album.
While there hasn't been any technical delays like the beer on the keyboard incident (knock on wood please) we've been putting ourselves under great amounts of pressure and that in itself can cause delays. Ayin has the gift (and curse) of being run by 4 perfectionists, and because of that we all are extremely hard on ourselves when things go wrong or not to our liking. We've all reached bottom, and we've all become burnt out on this band as a whole especially since the past couple of months have not gone according to plan. It's hard not too when you put your heart and soul into something for several months, and get nothing in return.
But there comes a point where the heavy burdens start to lighten, and a collective conscience starts being collective again. After a couple rough weeks we picked up the slack, got almost a full set solid with new Chris, and have even got some artwork started with friend Phil Istomin (a.k.a. MANICproject). Of course not too many details can be given at this time, maybe next month we'll get into that.
So with the moment of doubt out of our system, we're back hard at work to finish this god forsaken album before the year ends. If you feel so inclined, leave us some love, comments, emails of passion, or recipes to groove to.
Till next time.
Ayin
