A Western Dialogue is an acoustic outfit hailing from Rock Island, IL. Created in 2006, AWD has so far created over a dozen songs, played numerous charity shows, and enjoyed double digits of CD sales. Playing music for the purpose of expressing complicated emotions, AWD hopes listeners can benefit vicariously through the unchecked, unsolicited outpouring of real conflict that everyone has experienced in some way or another. Though the acoustic genre has oftentimes been labeled with derogatory terms such as 'emo', 'pretty boy bands', and 'cry babies', AWD's main goal is to bring a greater appreciation among the Christian and Indie musical communities for the pure, unabated power of acoustic 'emo' rock. AWD feels music is another form of communication of the soul and that if people listen carefully, they can hear their own music resonating in the blotched chords, the harsh vocals, and the beaten melodies.
a western dialogue (n.) -
1. a discussion between two or more people or groups directed toward exploration of a particular subject that does not focus on physical, tangible concepts.
2. the flow of communication between one being and another involving concepts not wholly explained, described, or represented by words.
i.e. Tim and I were locked in a western dialogue as we argued about the pros and cons of long distance dating relationships.

Finally, after all this time, A Western Dialogue is producing real music. We have recorded three working demos, "The Dragonslayer", "Counting Down From 331", and "My Tongue has Become a Symbol of How Everything Can Go Wrong". Soon, maybe this weekend, "My Tongue" will be a completed song, though who knows. "The Dragonslayer" requires a chorus of voices, and therefore will take much longer to organize. And "331" only requires me to figure out some guitar parts. So really, three songs, all under four minutes, sweet chorus on "My Tongue", and we'll see. Quick analysis of songs:
"The Dragonslayer" - My coming out as a single man song. With a happy tune and a rather positive outlook, it chronicles two past relationships while integrating a future female. Life goes on.
"Counting Down From 331" - This may be the only song dedicated solely to reflecting on my past relationship. Addressed to a dear friend, it is a short, sad song of regret, loss, and dismissal. Don't hold your breath.
"My Tongue has Become a Symbol of How Everything Can Go Wrong" - Easily my oldest of the three songs. The chorus is two months old; I wrote it on the back of a school flyer. During a party in my basement, a female friend saw it and commented on how it was sweet. It is now a song both of reflection on the good things in my past relationships while detailing some of the regret that I'm not in any of them. And it looks forward to future girl.
Overall, I have confidence that all these songs will be among my top ten yet, maybe two of them in top five. We'll see which are in which list. If anyone reads this, thanks for listening and waiting. I hope not to disappoint.

As opposed to previously announced, AWD has decided to move the music in a slightly different direction. As of now, AWD is working on completing a possible new EP (or full length?) titled, "Kiss Me, I'm Cute", with a temporarily undisclosed release date. The full length "Lambency and Twilight Dance Tonight" will still be completed but without the help of the previous engineer. Also, it will feature fewer songs with a more direct tone. The first half will still be the light and the second the dark. Please download the new stuff and leave a comment or two about it. Is it good? Do you like the changes? We wonder... Oh, and before we forget: Andrew Messerschmidt will most likely be the next permanent member of the band as soon as we purchase a MIDI cable. He will be the keyboardist as well as a backup vocalist. Let's give him a warm welcome. till next time: listen!

December 23
four songs have been written in the past three days... the music to two of them has already been recorded, and we are waiting for frontman J.Branch's cold to go away. Christmas is on our doorsteps, so hopefully it will be a joyous one. The song titles for the four songs are as follows: Advance to St. Charles, Catch-22, Standard Girl, and I.M.A. thank you for listening!

Okay, when I said that the full length album was coming together, i spoke hastily... Rather, the full length is just about complete. Songs 1-16 (pending the resolution of some technical problems with coengineer Christian Portwine's software) are complete. Songs 17 and 18 have yet to be recorded, and 17 may not happen (sad face, please). Anyways, while you were soundly asleep this past night, AWD was busy recording, recording, recording while editing, mastering, and mixing several of the tracks complete. So yes, there should be some newer songs to listen to and download on this site including the new I-88!
The likely time for the official release of the CD will probably be around early January, as that is when the band will be back in Rock Island. Some folks located near Rockford may get a copy early, but that's about it. And once again, it will be completely free (albeit it will only be CD-R quality, but hey, it's free!) So keep your socks on! -AWD

As of now, 9 of the 18 songs that will be on the full length (to be released via burned CD-Rs hopefully before Dec. 22, oh and FREE of charge (barring donations)) have been put under the 'finishing touches' category. That means there are only a few details that need to be ironed out, especially with Christian Portwine (contributor and producer on three of the songs). These songs may not be done until after Christmas, which would be really sad. But we are trying our best. As for now, there is a pretty much complete version of "Contingent on Being Friends" available for download. This is a shortened version of a song played live earlier this year, but yeah, it was too long, ha. A couple songs should replace I88 and baptism in a couple days. Hope all is well.
