Making a name for yourself in any scene can be a terrible two headed monster. Trends change overnight; wear last years clothes or play a last years riffage and you might just find yourself labelled un-hip. But follow too closely to whats contemporary and youd be undistinguishable from the pack.

With members whose influences range from Thrice and The Bled, to Bon Jovi, and coming from all backgrounds and races, our band faced even more challenges just getting our act together. Suffice to say, weve formed our own opinions and attitudes towards working around the existing clichs, and just bonded over a desire to let our music be heard by as many people as possible.

Founded by Fredrick almost two years ago, Dawn joined soon after. A shuffle in band members eventually led to the addition of Sufrin, Firdaus and Ashley, and the line-up you now know as Aviery. Our first few shows were at vastly different sorts of venues like Hougang Park and an NUS rec hall. We tried not to rely heavily on covers and chose instead to showcase our originals. Truth be told, those first shows were received with a lukewarm reception but that only made us more determined to take matters into our own hands.

We knew that if we were going to make people sit up and listen to our originals, we had to work for it. Fredrick has always had a keen interest in design and he had a very clear vision of the bands concept. He set about creating the bands flash website, and logo designs with a very D.I.Y. approach. With a lot of help from myspace.com and purevolume.com, the band slowly spread word about itself.

Since February 2006, Aviery has been in the studio recording a 6 track ep with Focal Pro Studios that will likely be released in Sept 2006. Set to be included in the cd is a Music Video of one of our songs that was put together by our friends. Weaving guitar riffs and metal growls can be found be most of our songs. But to stand out from the rest of the post-hardcore pack, our music incorporates new age piano passages that serve to only make the harder parts more cathartic.

Its been one hell of a ride since our days hanging out at jamming studios. In the last year and a half, weve had the honour of being invited to play many gigs, recorded a demo for a hardcore compilation, made many new friends whom wed never get the chance to meet otherwise, and exposed ourselves to different scenes and circles. Right now, were really excited to finish up our recording and printing of our cd, and to witness the response to a piece of work that was a long time coming. Stay Tuned.
