Progressive / Rock / Psychedelic
Hi, first up I am just a random guy from England, not a member of Pink Floyd. I noticed there's not alot of decent music (Well at least in my own opinion.) on here and I thought: "Hey hey, lets get some inspiring stuff on."
Also people who like Pink Floyd tunes would also probably like; The Doors, Led Zeppelin, (There's a guy on PureVolume who has Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin doing Stairway to Heaven... I prefer the original but for those who want to listen... http://www.purevolume.com/ledzeppelinwithpinkfloyd) King Crimson, Deep Purple, The Beatles, Frank Zappa, The Kinks and of course Rolling Stones.
Any requests of Pink Floyd songs i'll gladly try to put them on.
I don't really want to do a very large bio on Pink Floyd, mainly because possibly no one will read it. And I'm quite sure alot of you already know a fair bit about Pink Floyd itself. But if you really want to learn more about Pink Floyd I can simply direct you here and it will tell you everything you want to know. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pink_Floyd
Good ol'e Wikipedia, eh?
First off... Syd Barrett, most people who listen to Pink Floyd have pretty much heard all their music as they get pretty much addicted and want to hear what there is to hear. Though there is a fair few who don't really care and go for the hits. This bit is for them.
Syd Barrett, you say? He was not the founding member of Pink Floyd as such. It started of with Bob Klose, Nick Mason and Roger Waters and they came up with the name of "Tea Set" (heh). They picked up Syd Barrett on the way, then the real band imerged. The band official formed in 1965 and released their first album in 1967 "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn". That was basically all that Syd did in the band, the main reason was that he was a drug addict and eventually he got too involved in acid and ended up on a perminant trip so to speak. The band kicked him off before that and David Gilmour filled the gap. Syd did do one last song in Pink Floyd called "The Jugband Blues" which was the last song in "Saucerful of Secrets". Syd lastly released his own solo albums called "The Madcap Laughs" in January 1970 and soon after "Barrett" in November 1970. His albums are... Interesting to say the least, the one thing I really like about the album you can hear his mistakes in the songs... Some people hate this I think it makes the albums sound more natural. Not every is musical kings who get it the first time. I think in one of the songs he actually randomly stops, curses, and continues. =) Cool guy if you ask me.
...
Little fact I found about Bob Klose.
"Rado 'Bob' Klose (born 1945; sometimes referred to as Bob Close or Brian Close in various publications) is a British musician and photographer. He was one of the earliest members of the rock band Pink Floyd, playing the lead guitar, however he left the band before they recorded (possibly excluding the earliest "Lucy Leave" and "I'm a King Bee" demo recordings).
The Abdabs (a.k.a. The Screaming Abdabs) with Roger Waters (lead guitar), Rick Wright (rhythm guitar), Nick Mason (drums), Clive Metcalfe (bass guitar), and Keith Noble & Juliette Gale (vocals), performed rhythm & blues under various names (Sigma 6, The T-Set, The Meggadeaths, and the Abdabs variations above) during their run with manager Ken Chapman, who also wrote some early material for the band.
Metcalfe, Noble, and Gale left the band around the time Wright and Gale married. Syd Barrett (guitar and vocals) and Bob Klose (lead guitar and vocals) joined the remaining members. This new group called itself first Tea Set and then The Pink Floyd Sound (named after two old Georgia bluesmen, Pink Anderson and Floyd Council). The word "Sound" was dropped from the band's name, as, later, was the definite article.
Klose was more interested in jazz and blues than Barrett's psychedelia and pop and so left the band in 1965, shortly after joining. Barrett assumed lead guitar, lead vocals, and the bulk of the songwriting, while Klose went on to become a photographer.
It is said (and confirmed by himself in a TV documentary) that Klose's guitar can be heard on the early bootlegs I'm a King Bee and Lucy Leave, both available on the A Tree Full Of Secrets RoIO.
In 2006 Klose was once again connected to Pink Floyd as one of the guest performers on David Gilmour's album "On An Island"."
...
Rightio... The band name itself, I was surfing around on the web and a found one name which the band was considering which made me laugh. "Tea Set"... heh. They eventually changed that to "The Pink Floyd Sound", then of course shortened it to what we know of Pink Floyd. The band name itself is the name of two blues/jazz players. Pink Anderson and Floyd Council. This is pretty much common knoweldge these days anyhoo.
Location: Leicester, United Kingdom
Members: Syd Barrett (R.I.P.), Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright
