How they got together:

Basically, most of the member either sent in an application or had family who sent one in for them. Each had a little bit different experiences. The following info in this section came from an interview on 02/23/2004 on Heyx3. **Note below**

Aiba - I didn't have any clue. When I entered, I had applied by myself, but I didn't know anything about the Johnny's company. I didn't know about the dancing or the singing...At that time SMAP had a basketball program on TV, right? "I love SMAP" I had always played basketball, and I had wanted to play basketball with them, so I applied...Why I'm standing, I have no idea... But I was talking to some of the girls in my class about how I could possibly play basketball with SMAP (on the show). And they suggested to first try to apply to get into their company to get onto the show. So from the start it's not like I'm weird in the head or anything...

Jun - I didn't do an audition. I was on vacation and I got a call from Johnny. From him, at least I think it was really him. I answered and he asked if Jun-kun was there. He said that right now he was in Roppongi in front of Asahi television doing lessons. "YOU come." I asked him what he was talking about, and he said Johnny's Entertainment. So I said, "oh okay, I'm coming." And I went. I did the lessons and I along the way became a Junior.

NIno - I was the youngest, 16. I had always played baseball when I was younger. My cousin had sent off the application and after about half a year I got a reply, that was when I finally noticed that I was set up. I had a baseball game that Sunday so I didn't want to go, but my mom said that this was an opportunity that only comes around once or twice in a lifetime. "I'm giving you 5000 yen, go!"

Ohno - My mom told me that she had sent in the application. I was thinking "give me a break!" But she had already sent it off, it made me sick. She told me with that attitude I'd never pass~

Sho - Yeah, pretty much in my case about a month after I sent in the application I suddenly got a white envelope. When I got home after club activities at school, my mom had opened the envelope. There was this green piece of paper that said I had passed the first review phase with a date and location written on it report to. After you passed that first review you go to the audition.
