May 5
Hey there!
How are you? As usual we are very busy since we just came back from an amazing tour with Smash the Statues through Scandinavia and we had an even greater release show in March (Pictures: http://picasaweb.google.com/antillectual). This May will be a very busy month for us on top of that. So there’s more than enough to tell you. Please read on below:
- Website online
- Reviews
- Interviews
- Tour and studio reports
- Upcoming tour in June (looking for shows!)
- Upcoming festivals and shows
Website online
To keep yourself up to date with what we are doing and vice versa we used to have a website in addition to the restricted possibilities Myspace offers us. Since a couple of days we have a website online again! Check it on www.antillectual.com. It is still not completely finished, but you can check more than you could ever do on our myspace: Tour reports, shows, reviews, photo’s, subscribe to our RSS-feed, order T-shirts, hoodies, girlies, albums, etc. And on the new website you can comment on news items, reports, reviews, interviews, everything without having to register or anything. Please, feel free to leave a comment, we’d appreciate it! A lot of thanks to Suzette (www.hi-fibre.com) and our own Riekus for creating this website.
If you live abroad and you want to order our album, you can do so now on our website through email. “Special Offers”: old & new album = 15 euro, album & T-shirt/girlie = 15 euro. Or simply reply this email with your wishes. From now on you can also go to www.interpunk.com to order our new album on both vinyl and CD.
Reviews
Speaking of reviews, we’re getting back more and more of them and they keep amazing us. Even people in Germany seem to be able to enjoy our music, how’s that?
Some quotes:
8.5/10 Antillectual has every right in the world to be mentioned among bands like THE LOVED ONES, A WILHELM SCREAM or AGAINST ME! When listening to "Testimony" you realize how much heart those guys put into writing and composing. You get the feeling of holding a record in your hands that European punkrock can pin its hope on. (Slam Magazine (ger))
The Nijmegen and Arnhem based Antillectual is possibly Holland’s hardest working punkrock band. The frequent playing caused Antillectual’s growth into a determined, politically aware punkrock machine. (Oor (nl))
With the current lack of serious substance in mind, Testimony is a release that definitely should be cherished. (Fret Magazine (nl))
97/100 Punk has seldom sounded so inspired. An album for the year lists! I doubt the new Anti-Flag album will be a match for this album. (Up Magazine (nl))
88/100 A band that spreads its message with this much passion and integrity and, on top of that, is a treat for the ear, what else could one wish for? How beautiful punkrock can be sometimes. (Punx.nl (nl))
Where most bands try it, Antillectual does it and makes it look really easy. A true parade of different punk rock styles. (Asice.net (nl))
8/10 Testimony is more than just a very good album. It’s a labour of love, with songs that are not merely entertainment, but which also carry a message. (Disagreement.net (lux))
Antillectual convinces me totally. This is one of the best punk/hardcore releases in recent months. (Dedication.it (ita))
Testimony is undoubtedly an incredibly coherent and meticulously thought out piece of music. (Lamette.it (ita))
This is a band that does the walk instead of doing the talk. And we don't have too much of this today. (Misfitzine (por))
If you have a zine or know a zine that should feature a review, get in touch with us and we might be able to arrange something. If you want to read the complete reviews we received go to www.antillectual.com.
Interviews
Because of the release of our album “Testimony” we did several (online) interviews. You can find some of those here:
KD Cobain (Italy): http://www.kdcobain.it/pagine/interviste/antillectual.htm (in English and Italian)
Bobby In A Volvo (Belgium): http://biav.be/index.php?page=interviews&id=14 (English)
Long Live Rock ‘n’ Roll (Italy): http://www.longliverocknroll.it/Interviste/Antillectual-2008.htm (Italian).
All interviews we’ve ever done will also be available on our website.
Tour and studio reports
We just got back from our tour through Scandinavia a couple of days ago and on our www.myspace.com/antillectual you could read some reports from that trip. You can find the complete written report on our website www.antillectual.com and check some pictures on http://picasaweb.google.com/antillectual. And long awaited: on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVVgP5usDlA there is a diary of how we recorded “Testimony” in August of last year. All other tour videos are still to be found there too, you can subscribe yourself to our account too.

The band will sell the album (CD+LP) at shows from March 3. This is also the date when the album is available in shops throughout Europe. If you are a label or distributor interested in our record, get in contact with a label near you for wholesale prices.
If you havent listened to the new songs, you can check them online at our www.myspace.com/antillectual, we recently added a new song called Friendly Fire. There you can also take a look at the beautiful artwork by Gemma Pauwels (www.gemma.nu). The first review of the album is in already; if they all could be like this one ... please have a read:
Antillectual Testimony
From mid-tempo melancholic post-punk to thrashing punkrock! Antillectual is far from ashamed to militantly show its versatility on the bands second full-length album. Indeed, Silencing Civilizations successor is a straight up hit! Recognizable melody, emotion, and passion combined with somewhat unconventional structures, inventive guitar riffs and vocal harmonies. Propagandhi meeting A Wilhelm Scream meeting Strike Anywhere meeting No Use For A Name meeting Bad Religion with a hint of Hot Water Music? No, totally different! (But somewhat alike).
From the rising of the drums in opening song Testimony to the fade out of the swelling sounds in I Hope You Got My Letter, all are a feast for the ear and eye. Not the least for the eye, because again the socially critical lyrics and their explanations can be found in the booklet.
Plusses are among many things the hot Maiden riff in The Dog Ate It! and pleasantly up-tempo rocking songs like Waves and On Its Own. The only blot is the length of I Hope You Got My Letter that tends to stand out in that way. This could be a personal objection that no one agrees with though, so dont be bothered. If the record contained 4 more songs I wouldnt even have noticed.
Well, a band that spreads its message with this much passion and integrity and, on top of that, is a treat for the ear, what else could one wish for?
How beautiful punkrock can be. *Sigh*
Score: 88/100
Some more publications will follow soon, including Testimony reviews and interviews in Up Magazine and Long Live Rock 'n' Roll among others.

To celebrate the new release were having a release show on March 21. It will take place in cafe The Stage in Arnhem. Other bands playing will be Hollands finest:
-The Real Danger
-Gewapend Beton
-Smash the Statues

The new album will be released on March 3, 2008 through Fond of Life Records, Infected Records, No Reason Records, Rise or Rust Records, Shield Recordings and Youth Way Records. Were very excited about the cooperation between those 6 labels. It will make Testimony available throughout entire Europe and makes us label mates with great bands like Enemy Alliance, Rentokill, This Is A Standoff, The Indecision Alarm, The Real Danger, The Twisted Minds, Astpai, Straightaway and much more awesome bands. Listen to the demo recordings for the record on our myspace or website: www.antillectual.com. New songs from the record will follow in January.
The album is recorded in August 2007, in Die Tonmeisterei studio in Oldenburg, Germany. Nico van Montfort (a.o. Face Tomorrow, Malkovich, Instil) did an amazing job on the recording/mixing/mastering of the album.
March 3, 2008 is the official release date, but you can pre-order the album from a label near you from February 2. Fond of life (Ger, UK, Lux.), Infected Records (Por.), No Reason Records (Ita.), Rise or Rust Records (A.), Shield Recordings (NL, Bel.) or Youth Way (Fr.). The album costs 10 euro (shipping excluded) and will come in a beautiful digipack designed by Gemma Pauwels (www.gemma.nu). Next to a digipack version Shield Recordings will also release a vinyl version on 12 and the album will be available in several download stores through Fond of Life Records.
