I'm married to Tui, who occasionally helps me out with vocals, and have an 11 year old son, Rogie, from a previous marriage. I'm a TV producer and as well as making music, I like to write and play football. I've had a novella, The Lizard Song, published, as well as three sports biographies: Take No Prisoners (rugby league star Matthew Ridge), Justin Marshall (All Black) and The Wicked Keeper (cricketer Adam Parore). I also helped my dad Iain and my elder brother John write a local history book called Cook - the County and its People. At the moment I'm working on a non-fiction book about the Ruatoria Rastafarians under the working title Footsteps of Fire. I've been working on this for six and a half years and counting, but hope to have it finished by the end of the year. I grew up in a small isolated sunny East Coast town of 30,000 called Gisborne: a brilliant place to grow up like a wild weed. I love that place and I love going back there. It's one of God's little pockets of South Pacific paradise. These days I live in Auckland, by far the biggest city in New Zealand, which is a more suitable size for the adult me. Musically, I've played in various bands, usually bass and usually with my brother Duncan or with guitarist extraordinaire Steve Simmonds. I've always written and recorded songs but never done anything with the recordings. The advent of sites such as this allows me to push these little boats out into the water and watch what happens to them.
