With entrancing, powerful vocals fueled by driving instrumentals and heart-telling lyrics, Amy Courts weaves life into music in a unique but relatable way, captivating audiences with a heart-on-her-sleeve vulnerability. On her debut independently released EP, produced by celebrated studio veteran Charles Judge, best known for his work with Rascal Flatts, Faith Hill, and Carrie Underwood, she passionately addresses a wealth of common human issues shes personally experienced.
Throughout her debut record, Amy does anything but tread lightly, exploring themes of love, loss, disappointment, and ultimate satisfaction with God and people. In "Save Me," she laments her own propensity to wander and pleads for intervention saying, "It's not that things are wretched, it's that I'm a filthy whore / I'd deny what satisfies me for the thought of maybe more / Save me!" Still, she wraps it in the poetically hopeful resolution that with "three nails, a crown of thorns, He can shape a wife out of a whore." In more accessible songs like "Company" and "Alone," Amy explores the basic need for human intimacy and relationship. She crowns the project with the simple but profound reality of "Nothing Better," which celebrates the warmth and clarity of awakening to grace.
Armed with powerhouse vocals reminiscent of Patty Griffin and Jennifer Knapp, the theological insight born of years of study, and a gift for painting musical pictures of struggles common to every saint and sinner alike, Amy Courts passionately brings depth into the common arena with stunning relatability.
