so...whats with the coyote?
blog post
Awhile back I was looking for the perfect icon to represent Ambient Summer, an image that represents the core beliefs the gravity that holds ambient summer together and that formed it in the first place. It seemed that everyone has some sort of bird or some other animal or symbol that usually looks cool but has nothing to do with the soul of the music and its source. I searched long and hard and wasnt until I had come across an old magazine in my basement that had a picture of a coyote in the snow. Not thinking I'd find anything interesting in the article I thought why not couldnt hurt. Shuffling through the pages I read about how the U.S. government spends something around 400 million dollars in tax money to hunt down and kill coyote's in an effort to limit their growing population. It went on to say that coyote's before humans were such a dominant foe in nature were on the lower end of the food chain with wolfs and bears being at the top they would keep the population in check but now that humans had killed off so many bears and wolf's the coyote population will continue to flourish. The article went on to say that coyotes are used to being "hated" and hunted down first by bears and wolf's now by humans, and that they had "adapted" to surviving under these harsh persecuted conditions. It was a fact that more of the pups would survive when born under hard circumstances and that when less persecuted only a few coyote's pups would survive. On top of the US governments efforts there are certain communities whom promote the killing of these animals and hold free competitions on whoever could kill the most coyote's wins a dinner or some other ridiculous prize. The one quote that pushed me to this symbol of what ambient summer is about is one that put everything into words that matched perfectly with the projects philosophy:
Coyotes, are the ultimate icon for success and defiance of humans who think they can control nature.Bob Crabtree; Research Director of Yellowstone Ecosystem Studies
no matter how much they are persecuted and hunted down and killed, they will continue to flourish and grow even stronger in the tough times.
