CD Review - All The Brightness - Lost In The Soul Deposit
As their name would suggest, this Toronto trio is destined to shine. Not only is their music uplifting, but it is powered with enough kilowatts to light up Las Vegas. If their sound is best described as a combination of modern rock and power pop, then the songs themselves are virtual checklists of the defining qualities of these genres: fresh, concise, energized, emotive... in a word, memorable.
It is almost an oxymoron to say that it is refreshing to hear something that takes me back to the early to mid 90's. I do find it refreshing when a band can take their music to the point of out of the ordinary. This does not mean it has to be off the wall, or freakish, but instead, inspired and thoughtful, blending what is the norm today, with some new flavours that are not readily available.
In Closing
From the first track: Soul Deposit with it's hard rock approach and tight riffs, you know that this band is more than capable of playing their instruments. As the CD plays through, you get something a bit different out of every track. Standouts include Beautiful Massacre and When it all Made Sense. The latter following the tried and true formula of haunting acoustic, strong vocals, and ending in a very powerful finish. Very well rounded song writing.
One challenge to a band like this is to have a definitive genre to fall into. This can be a good problem, as it does widen the audience that the album is being delivered to. Clean tracks, with minimal production (or should I say, not over-produced) gives a very live, energetic feel to the CD. This should cross over in to a live show, and give an honest showing of the CD at a show. I would recommend picking up this CD, as it has a good mix of moods and emotions to it, and stays away from the expected emo/pop punk that one may expect for the most part these days.
Stubby Says: What are kids eating these days? It seems the younger the bands get, the more creative they are getting, playing with past genres, and bringing the rock back to rock and roll. I will definitely be trading in my Jock Rock 3 CD to have a listen to this.

"Toronto trio All The Brightness debut "Lost in the soul deposit" contains 10 edgy hard hitting modern rock tracks with crunchy guitars and super melodic choruses ... the music is well performed and with a million buck sounding production you just cant go wrong. Sometimes you just wanna rock without any bigger complications in the music, that's where this band comes in and turns up the amps at max - frontman Nick Mazzei knows how to rock with class. Let me tell you, Chad Kroeger has to watch out coz the spot of being the no:1 modern rock composer in Canada may change with Mazzei around. The rocker "Never you" gets the motor running for sure and is powered with enough kilowatts to light up Las Vegas (to use the words in their biography)..."

"Really good from start to end with all the ingredients that you want to have that for sure!! We got rough guitars, a great vocalist in Nick Mazzei and perfect rock anthems that would suit in any action movie these days. Canada is the best country when it comes to modern rock like this. They got Nickelback, Closure and 40 Foot Echo that are all in the highest division, playing very tasty and uncomplicated rock that is both timeless and modern ... if youre into this kind of stuff, Lost in the soul deposit" with All The Brightness is a very safe investment. Very competent modern rock with classic hardrock influences all over. Thumbs up guys, we want more!!"
