When I started to write songs I wanted the songs to be a simple reflection of thoughts, feelings, and praises that I was experiencing at the time. Sometimes I like to just sit down with the guitar and start playing. Thoughts and ideas will just come and before you know it, I've got a song. The songs posted here are just a sample of some of the ones either myself or my brother, Edward, have written. They were recorded on an analog 4-Track recorder a couple of years back. Edward plays a lot of the good guitar that you hear and I basically am on the acoustic guitar. I have several live songs from a concert that we did back a few years ago at The Vine in Waycross, GA. I may post them out here later for people to take a listen. We always said that it's not about us and it's not. It's about Jesus - The only real "Way."
April 11, 2006 - I went ahead and added the Live version of Walls with 'the Way' laying down the music. I also added "Don't know what to say" even though it isn't a Christian song per se, I like the irony of it. Hope you enjoy!
Thanks, Allen

Well,
I put up a MySpace page about a week or so ago. My son was bugging me to do it so.........I did.
I added some songs out there and tried to make a couple of them different than what I've got here.
I enjoy the MySpace format and the creativity that it allows. Getting your music out there is so much different now than it was a few years back.
I go by just "J Allen" on the myspace since there is really no band right now and it's just me.
Several folks have already expressed interest in getting with me to do some music so I am excited to see what the Lord has in store for this.
I enjoy writing songs and singing (and playing music in general). I am beginning to be torn by the labels a little. So many young people won't listen if you label it as strictly Christian music.
If we're trying to reach them, we need to be real and speak their language without being fake or condescending. I hope to explore this further with some new songs that reach out to the ones that need it most.
Looking forward to the day!
J Allen

Well, I've just gotten back from Columbus, GA on a trip for the school. It was fun, but tiring.
I met some new people and it was fun. The students brought home some medals.
I've been listening to a lot of country lately and I would love to get back to writing some new stuff and making it as real as possible. I still like the acoustic music better than most although a good rockin' electric really gets your blood pumping.
If you haven't listened to our music on this site, please check it out and let me know what you think.
I heard from a fellow musician friend of mine this week with some bad news about another person that we both know having cancer.
I hate to hear that at his age, but will continue to pray for his recovery.
Until later, may God bless and keep you.

I uploaded the live version of Walls today and added "Don't know what to say".
Like I said on the billboard, this one is not really a Chrisian song but I like it.
This is a very acoustic version, just a mic and a guitar.
See ya,
Allen

Tom and I have been listening to a lot of Johnny Cash and Chris LeDoux recently. Both have some great songs. I bought the DVD of Johnny live at Montriex from '94 and he was still rockin then. I really enjoy the acoustic set with the song Redemption and The Beast in Me. He really understood the grace of God and how our only hope is through the blood of Jesus. Good Stuff.
We're not just jumping on the Cash bandwagon. We were some of those that we're already fans and were just waiting on the movie to come out and see if they "got it right."
LeDoux also wrote some great cowboy songs on his old albums. I see why Garth was such a fan.
Have a good week!

Well guys. I'm going to try something new and put a couple of our songs out here on purevolume.
Anyone that takes a listen, let me know how they sound. These are not professionally recorded. We did these mainly on my Tascam.
