"We're at our crossroad, destination," these are the words that resound in the hearts of the members of Against the Current as they begin to embark on a lifelong journey in music. It's not surprising that this line of inspiration comes from one of the girls' own songs, for they write all of their own lyrics and music. "The song 'Crossroad/Destination' really sums up our journey as a whole," says Marri, sixteen. "It's a song that talks about where we've been, where we're going, and how our struggles brought us to where we are today." This life destination is one that every person must find, but is one that the members of Against the Current found at a very young age. In fact, the four girl pop/rock band started four years ago, with the youngest -Gina- only ten years old. The four girls began performing together when they all found a common interest in songwriting and singing, and soon -after the suggestion of a local radio DJ- they formed the band. "At first it started kind of small, we all loved music and performing together," recalls Gina who is now fifteen. "We never imagined that our little girl band would turn into a career, and our life's vocation." As Against the Current transitioned from four young girls to four young women, their music and mission grew as well. Songs that once had been considered bubble-gum pop were replaced by more intricate harmonies and thought provoking lyrics. Julianna, eighteen, says that "our music is meant to inspire. That is really the reason for us singing in the first place, to challenge kids our own age to look outside of themselves and ask existential questions, just like we did."

In the four years the girls have been singing together, they have worked hard practicing, recording and performing around the country, but mainly in New England and around their home state of Connecticut. These four years were merely preparation for the journey that lies ahead. "Even though we've been working together for four years, it really feels like we're just beginning", says Lisa who is seventeen. "It's the first time that we've really tried to put ourselves out there and find people to work with who believe in us and our mission." "We know that the right people are out there," adds Julianna, " we just need to find them." Wherever the roads may lead, Against the Current will continue with hope and passion as they follow their hearts and reach their destination.
