Christian / Classic Rock
The classic, hard-driving sounds of Advent, coupled with the group's penchant for pop melodies and insightful spiritual lyrics, produced a repetoire of enjoyable tunes in the mid-80's. The group was formed by former Silver Dollar City amusement park piano player Don Jones, who handled keyboards and some of the songwriting duties; he was joined by the guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Jerome Christopher who provided the pure "voice" of the band; Evangel University students Jeff Allen and Scott Kelton provided drums and bass/vocals respectively; David Ohlerking contributed head-turning lead guitar parts/keyboards/and vocals. Along with his progressive songwriting talent, David set the mark high for Advent wardrobe stylings.
The group recorded its self-titled Greatest Hits Debut Demo in 1985. The band received a personal invitation in the fall of 1985 to visit with producer Bubba Smith of WORD records in Nashville, Tennessee. Bubba's frank response upon hearing the Advent demo, "great tunes, no hits." After this make or break appointment, Advent's relaxed approach to the music business simply fizzled and eventually faded out as the group departed and moved elsewhere.
As a result of this musical venture, Advent now simply lives on in the faded memories of the group's middle-aged, and deaf participants.
Advent - the one hitless wonders.
