Cross cut is certainly more secure, but a person would need to spend a serious amount of effort attempting to come up with pages cut apart by a ribbon-cut shredder. Either kind of shredder may be used to destroy confidential paperwork, and for the price, a paper shredders will pay for itself tenfold whether it prevents someone from stealing information.

Paper shredders are vital for just about any application where confidentiality is involved, from individuals needing to shred personal documents, to companies having to shred thousands of papers a year. These come in many styles and capacities, and all do an adequate job of destroying confidential data. Realistically, if a person or company needs to get rid of paperwork with as much as a name or address on it, it may be in their interest to shred it.
