Why?

blog post
Why us Bruneians?

Last night I had my first tryouts for the "ASLI - the musical" and I'm glad Rach and rest of the aslin bunch was happy of my performance. I was offered for one of the main character's best friends in the musical which is "GONG". Describing "GONG" will be easy to me, he's a wise guy. A person who gives wise a** answers to his friends. In malay we call it "si-penau" lah, "mr. knows it all". Last night turns up to be my first newspaper interview with BB for ASLI, I was asked several question regarding my involvement. All I can say is, I'd love to explore my versatility in acting, as Rach has put her trust on me 100% and since she thinks that I can act, maybe theres a slight chance that I do. The report will be publish maybe this wednesday. I'll put up a link for you here.

Anyway, after my short conversation with BB, I went straight to Cribs (nada menyimpang kemana2), and as usual I have to wait for the rest of the superstars to arrive. To my disapointment, none of the main people for my Port View gig turned up, except for the dedicated BV's (Yudy & Jay - finally i got their names right). I had to cancel the practice and told the two to go home and rest since one of them will be having a big accouting exam today. Kesian jua. Well I stayed till around 11.15pm, but before that. I have a very good conversation with one of the foreign songwriter where we both agreed that Bruneians artist does not have enough support from the local itself. Support as in money, recording, etc. Why do we pay hundreds of thousand to bring in foreign artist when in Brunei we have our own? Like I said to BB earlier on, maybe one day it's MAWI's turn to do an opening for my concert not vice versa. Why do we support foreign artist? I hate the fact that even our own people don't have enough trust to put their own talent at par with other international artist.

The fact is, I was approached by a malaysian producer and he told me that the talents I have with my writings, my singing and solo performances. I can be as big as Jason Mraz itself or even bigger. I was offered for a recording oppurtunity in KL. How can a malaysian see that in me? In Bruneians but us, we dont see that. Is it that we are just plain ignorants? I support our own artist, even when most of them sounds the same to me. :) But these people spend their time and their own money to bring themselves up and to be known for their talent. Trust me, Brunei songwriters is far more better than that they have in Malaysia or Indonesia. So for those of you who still thinks that we don't have what it takes to be known and supported, then you can shove your egos', your money up ur *beep*
