What On Earth
Words and Music by Adam Mackie
Written in San Diego, CA Spring 2002
For billions of years
a planet was preserved
until human beings came along.
They anted up
and betted on a mother lode
until their filthy pockets overflowed.
They were like machines
laying pipe, staining their jeans
until every last drop was gone.
One day there will be no more oil (x3)
He parked his car
at the gas station
to fill his tank with gasoline.
White coats of paint
all along the picket fences
perfectly protecting the fertilized lawn.
Her drying lipstick
blew him a kiss
and he wondered, wondered "What On Earth" he had missed
One day there will be no more oil (x3)
Laser eyes
aimed in from the outside
scanning for traces underneath.
Visiting their neighbors
they found what they came their for
and taxed, taxed them all like they'd done years before.
All the raw energy
collapsed to their entropy
and things, things were never quite the same again.
One day there will be no more oil (x3)
