Formed in 2002 in Orlando Fl. ACHO BROTHER blends a type of Electro-Folk sound, peppered with acoustic guitars and electronic beats.Debut album is called "Tributo a Marvin Santiago" and it was a benefit EP to celebrate the life of puertorican singer Marvin Santiago.
Guitarrist/Vocalist Hector Mayoral & Drummer Zak Byrd are the perpetrators.
ACHO BROTHER was voted Best of The Bay Culture-Clash Artist 2006
by Creative Loafing Magazine in Tampa, for their second cd MONKISH,
and have recently opened shows for Jennifer O'connor, Maxi Priest & Caetano Veloso.
Dallas' Unsigned The Magazine called ACHO's MONKISH cd "..one of the best of the year.."
in their June 2007 issue and gave it 5 stars.
Acho Brother has just released their 3rd CD, "Las Chicas del Volleyball"
on Spanglish Records-..here'sCreative loafing had to say-
"Now on their third album, Acho Brother -- singer/guitarist Hector Mayoral and drummer Zak Byrd prove as adventurous as ever, blending Mayoral's breathy, impassioned vocals and aggressive acoustic six-string work with myriad found sounds, ambient washes and superb saxophone work from Jeremy Powell, as well as jazzy piano courtesy of Ray Olan. The Puerto Rico-born, Florida-raised Mayoral alternate between singing in English and Spanish; there are melodic ballads and experimental noise excursions. Few other Tampa Bay acts are making music this challenging, varied and rewarding."
