***We had some technical issues - but the EP is now available on iTunes!!! Thank you for your patience...now go buy away!***
Forming in the winter of 2007, Acalasia includes members Krystal Shore (vocals), Stephen Wells (bass), Neil Deyarmin (guitar), and Ryan Sheehan (guitar). Taking their name from the medical term achalasia, a condition characterized by a constriction of muscles that causes a difficulty in swallowing, the band decided to drop the 'h' for a personal touch and adopt the meaning behind their band name to be that some things in life are 'hard to swallow' or, in better terms, metaphorically 'hard to take.'
With Acalasia's new EP "Speak For No One" - they are doing quite the contrary and speaking loudly enough for everyone to hear. With a total of six songs, the EP is an eclectic blend of sounds, ranging from guitar-driven rock songs like "Paint These Smiles On" and "Save Me" to more traditional pop songs such as "Take it or Leave it" and "Wherever You Are."
Produced by Brooks Paschal - former singer of the band Sullivan (Tooth & Nail) - the 4-piece recorded their new EP at The Fort Studio in Winter Springs, Florida this past summer 2009.
Priding themselves as a completely DIY band, Acalasia has toured the entire east coast, reaching as far south as Miami, FL and as far west as Chicago, IL, playing in total over 100 shows in 9 states. They have opened for national acts of all genres, among them being Machina, Zolof the Rock and Roll Destroyer, Between The Trees, Automatic Loveletter, Valencia, The Spill Canvas, Person L, Socratic, Innerpartysystem, Good Old War, and Charlotte Sometimes.
Acalasia's new EP will soon be available in select Hot Topics - so be on the lookout to pick up your own copy!
