Members: Kamijo, Hizaki, Teru, Yuki, MASASHI
KAMIJO and HIZAKI had the concept for the new band beginning autumn 2006. It took about half a year to find other members who can express their idea. In March 2007, KAMIJO and HIZAKI, those two core members, formed Versailles with Jasmine You, TERU and YUKI.
The concept was a formula of "absolute beauty and extreme aestheticism". The duel guitars sound like rose vines grown riot over an agitated rhythm. Those sounds sketch the story of "The Descendant of the Roses".
On March 29th 2007, Versailles announced the line up of the official band members. The next day, March 30th, they announced the name of the band. From the moment Versailles first appeared on YOUTUBE on the 2nd of May that year, press from all over the world started to contact them for interviews and shows. Versailles turned down all domestic offers, responding only to the overseas media. At the end of May, Versailles were interviewed for a German documentary TV program, which was picked up by Sankei newspaper in Japan in June. Right after the newspaper published, âVersailles bandâ was the No.1 search keyword on YAHOO!. Since then, Livedoor News, Yomiuri Newspaper, Yomiuri TV, Fuji TV have all reported on Versailles, so they got plenty of visibility in Japan as well.
The first release in Japan was the DVD single âThe Revenant Choirâ which was only sold at venues. This single was awarded No.1 by the most influential visual-kei website, Visunavi. Around the same time, Versailles got offers from four labels overseas. The band chose CLJ Records from Germany, and that contract it made possible to release their 1st mini-album in both Europe and Japan at the same time.
In January 2008, Versailles was introduced in Billboard, U.S.A. and were paid lots of attention.
On March 19th, Versailles hosted the event âTokyo Metropolisâ at Shibuya AX, filled with excited audiences. On the same day, the venue-limited edition âA Noble was Born In Chaosâ was released.
Versailles started their tour of Europe on March 28th, 2008. They did six shows in five countries(Sweden, Finland, Germany, France and Spain)and received thunderous cheers from their international fans.
And on the 3rd of May, Versailles appeared in the historical big event âHide Memorial Summitâ at Ajinomoto Stadium. They cut a commanding presence, playing energetically in front of over 30,000 people for the first time! On 6th of May, Versailles capped their triumph by performing their first one-band show, at Daikanyama Unit.
Versailles then headed to Texas, USA, to participate as a main act in âA-KONâ, one of biggest anime conventions in the US. An audience of over 3500 enjoyed Versaillesâ first show in the US.
On July 9th, 2008, their full album âNOBLEâ was finally released. The album was astonishing; it told their concept story in both sound and image.
In August that year, the band had to change their name because of a trademark issue in the USA. Another artist there called themselves Versailles, and he warned us through their lawyer not to use the name in American territory. So the band added "Philharmonic Quintet" after the name Versailles; it was a top news item on Yahoo Japan.
October 10th-11th, the band was invited to play at "Anime USA", an anime convention in USA. On the 13th, Versailles had a sold-out one-band show at the Knitting Factory in NY.
December 23rd, the band held their one-band show at SHIBUYA CC Lemon Hall, selling out the 2000 seat venue. They announced on stage that they would make their first album with Warner Music Japan.
On June 14th of the next year, 2009, their debut single was released and reached No.7 on Oricon Weekly's singles chart.
In August of that year, Jasmine You passed away and the band stopped their activity to grieve.
They had a remarkable comeback to the stage at "V Rock Fest 09", which was the number one largest visual-kei festival.
January 10th 2010, the first debut album "JUBILEE" finally came out from Warner Music Japan.
