Three Machine is a Chicago-based progressive rock band performing all original music. Their style is admittedly, a bit difficult to categorize using current bands as a point of reference, but their music is perhaps best described as 'dramatic melodies, floating atop rhythms of fiery, headstrong optimism.' The band's varied and vast musical influences touch on the stylings of progressive rock, metal, jazz, folk, classical, Latin, and Mediterranean music.

Three Machine was formed in the spring of 2003 when guitarist Mike Koontz and drummer Rob van Daal had a chance meeting at a local drum workshop. Having discovered many common interests and musical goals, they sought to form a band bent on creating semi-complex, yet melodically accessible instrumental tunes. After writing a handful of songs, they spent the next several months auditioning bassists looking for the missing link, before finally discovering the talents of Jimi Ford, who had been performing in several regional bands. With the addition of Jimi, the reality of a living, breathing Three Machine was born. One further shift in the line-up occurred in late 2005 when Tom Kawasaki slid into the 'live' drum throne vacated by Rob's decision to focus his talents more towards studio work and the creative side of the band. Rob continues to be a contributing member of Three Machine and can occasionally be found sitting in at live performances.
