The Uptight Conservatives are the result of a 5 year

drunken exploration of original music, and butchering

their favorite covers. Heres a story this is how it

goes.......Eric and T started by playing ukulele and

acoustic guitar together about 10 years ago. After

many late nights of skankin Marley tunes they

somehow came to the conclusion that T needed

to learn to play guitar and Eric needed to learn the

bass. Andre had the privelage of playing in a few

bands many years back in Los Angeles. Once Andre

moved out to the north shore we eventually set up in

his house with small amps and shitty guitars. After

playing a couple jams like this they realized that Andre

plays the thunder drums so they bought half stacks, a

fender bass, and a Gibson SG. The loud band was born

and the cops attended several future rehearsals

outside our homemade jam shack in Erics backyard. I

dont think the jam shed did much to dampen the

sound but the boys sweated out several sessions

which developed the musical bond they have today.

Now they have the luxury of a private indoor sound

proof jam studio. Once the band was formed under the

name JOVIAL we played our first gig. We added our

friend Matt to sing some songs and we were off. Very

long story short, the gig turned out great. In true

rockstar form, Eric was throwing up before we played

from being hungover and then once we plug in and

play the first song it was a shock fest for Eric at this

outdoor pavillion. Whomever was in charge hit the

lights and they played the whole set in the dark. The gig

had a mosh pit that was so heavy that they had to have

the sound guy stand in front of them because all their

shit was getting knocked everywhere. The crowd loved

it and so did the boys. This lead to them playing several
bar gigs at Kainoas and Kemoo pub. T couldnt believe

that 5 years previous he only played acoustic guitar

and now hes playing and singing the songs that were

the soundtrack to their youth, songs from Bad Religion,

Pennywise, Descendents, Sublime, Dead Kennedys,

on stage for people. JOVIAL played with many acts

including, MDC, The Hell Caminos, The Enhancements,

Pimpbot, and many other local bands. Matt eventually

moved to California and the band has reformed their

approach to writing music and renamed themselves

The Uptight Conservatives.
