The numb feet linked to diabetic and peripheral neuropathy can't be cured fully but treatments might be adopted to offer relief within the symptoms and to steer clear of the further continuing development of the illness. There are 2 types of treatments. The first treatment option is to treat the anguish instead of worry about the long run continuing development of the disease. The second treatment choice is to address the sickness by choosing the cause and taking advantage of proven nutrients to rebuild nerve strength. In addition, a few supplements are added to help remedy any deficiency like thiamine, riboflavin, niacine and vitamin B6, vitamin B1 and vitamin B12.

The main problem with pharmaceutical treatment for PN is the concentrate on the symptoms rather than the underlying causative factors. The most common symptoms targeted for treatment in PN are; numbness, tingling, burning and/or a sense weakness. These symptoms can trouble the legs, feet, hands or arms and may occur on one side with the body or both (as PN advances).

People suffering from diabetic neuropathy with decrease of sensations in feet can't feel pain on account of injury. They may not determine if they have pebble inside their shoes and keep using it until it creates a big wound. Also not only pebbles, they don't feel pain from any injury. Now since they can't feel pain, any simple injury when repetitive could potentially cause a wound.

Neuropathies secondary with systemic illness could be reversible or sometimes only partially reversible. Diabetes mellitus is often a disease where many different patterns of neuropathy can take place. Some types of diabetic neuropathies like mononeuropathies (involving only one nerve) and radiculopathies (involving nerve roots) are fully reversible and do not require any specific therapy. However, each other form, which frequently involves lower limbs, can often be progressive and irreversible despite treatment. Still tight control over blood-glucose levels should be followed to at least slow the progression and stop other complications of diabetes. Hypothyroidism (Myxedema) causes entrapment neuropathies, and most they are reversible in early stages if adequate treatment with thyroid hormone replacement is provided. Other types of entrapment neuropathies like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome are fully reversible in beginning if treated adequately. Treatment is providing rest on the wrist, NSAID drugs (like Ibuprofen), or steroid injection in wrist and surgery (carried out in refractory cases not responding to treatments). Later there can be some permanent damage, also it could possibly be only partially reversible despite having surgical treatment.

46 diabetic patients struggling with painful longstanding peripheral neuropathy were involved with these studies. The patients were given 6 courses of classical acupuncture a duration of 10 weeks using traditional Chinese Medicine acupuncture points. 44 of the patients completed the therapy with 34 patients or 77 percent exhibiting significant improvement inside their symptoms. They were followed up for 18-52 weeks and 67 percent were able to reduce their medications. However, eight or 24 percent required further acupuncture treatment. 34 or 77 percent noted significant improvement of their symptoms while only 7 patients or 21 percent a clearing with their symptoms. One patient didn't finish the full course. There had been no reported unwanted effects. The study strongly shows that acupuncture is often a safe and effective long lasting management of painful diabetic neuropathy.
