The High Chaparrals (or the Chaps as everybody calls them) first started in November 2009 as an acoustic trio that played dinner venues. In April of 2010, Dan Bono began working with Chris Oelke to bring him up to speed with the Chaps and be able to add him to the crew. It was a match right off the bat. They began the summer playing weekend shows at Anchors Away (Okee, WI), The Northern Edge (Lodi, WI), and Taste of New Orleans (Wisconsin Dells, WI).
After playing a festival in June at Taste of New Orleans, the Chaps were offered a spot at Bavarian Square in Wisconsin Dells to play every Saturday night. They hopped on as soon as it was discussed among the Chaps. But, to make things more interesting, Pat Siebens wasn't available many of the nights. The Chaps began to work with other players in addition to Siebens. Through the players, the Chaps found a great player by the name of Dave Sage (The Gnarly Barly Boys) who was long time friends with Bono, Siebens, and Hilton. He came in and filled in the rest of the summer shows Siebens could not make.
Towards the very end of the summer, Siebens began playing the shows through the end of the summer season (finally ended Sept. 19th). They've been offered to play 3 clubs in Appleton/Neenah/Menasha through the Fall/Winter of this year, but have not committed yet. This winter will also include material writing to expand the current set list. Check out the events for upcoming shows!
